Jeita Grotto
The Jeita Grotto, a system of two separate, but interconnected, karstic limestone caves which have formed over millions of years, is the longest cave complex in the Middle East. It is located 300 metres above sea level and has a height difference of 305 metres. The Jeita upper cave has an overall length of 2,130 metres and contains a great concentration of a variety of crystallized formations such as stalactites, stalagmites, columns, mushrooms, ponds, curtains and draperies. The lower gallery which has an overall length of 6,200 metres is located 60 metres below the upper gallery. It is traversed by a smooth underwater river and a lake.
The Shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon
The shrine of our Lady of Lebanon is one of the most important shrines in the world honoring the Virgin Mary and located in Harissa, a key Christian pilgrimage site in Lebanon. The shrine is highlighted by a huge, 15-ton bronze statue of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of God. It is 8.5 m high and has a diameter of five meters. The Virgin Mary stretches her hands towards Beirut overlooking the Bay of Jounieh in one of the most attractive panoramic views in the world.

The tour itself is just the driving from point to point and back. Not really guided. But I still appreciate to explore by myself. I must further say that my driver was very very helpful with some personal difficulty I had that day. And I am really thankful to him. Good service if you want to visit sights outside Beirut on a day tour.

I was picked up by the arranged time and we headed directly to the Jeita Grotto. First of all: There are two different options (with gratuties and without), I opted the without variant (approx. 17$). The admission for the Jeita Grotto is 8,8 USD on top. The cave itself is very beautiful, but you're prohibited to take pictures (for safety reasons). We did have a short boat trip in the caves as well. Our next stop was Harissa and the Lady of Lebanon monument. It is one of the most important places for the christian community in asia and in the middle east. The admission is free, keep in mind that you should wear appropriate clothes! The last stop was in Byblos, where we also had a lunch in a decent restaurant. We visited the Byblos Garden with another Tour Guide Yazid, who was knowledges in the phoenician history. The admission was 4,5 USD. The garden was a nice spot, afterwards we did a coast walk, which was stunning. To summarize: The tour was well planned and our guide Hassan did a great job, so we felt comfortable all the time. Give it a try! I can recommend to take some USD with you, as a lot of sides and restaurants don't accept electronic payment.

Albert, our driver/guide was wonderful. He gave us information without constant chatter. The three sites weren't similar, but each was well worth seeing. The Jeita Cave is spectacular. Harisa has great religious importance. Byblos is one of the world's multi-millenia-old cities. Lebanon is a gorgeous country.
