I have been to Sonoma in the past and decided to take my wife so she could have the experience as well. The last time I was in Sonoma, I had taken a different wine tour (which I could no longer find) that was spectacular and had very high expectations. The wine trolley failed to deliver on what I expected and wanted for my wife. Let me start with the positives....the people that were on the tour with us were great and a really nice group. The driver was also very nice and accommodating, and did make the ride entertaining. So, on to the negatives... We visited four different wineries. Two of them are owned by the same vinter, so that was a disappointment. One of them was not even at a winery but at some location in a strip mall. The one thing that is hardly mentioned here on TripAdvisor and on the company's website is that you have to pay at each winery that you have a tasting at. These costs range from $30 and up, and on top of that, many of the wineries asked for/included a tip in the cost as well. Those extra costs really added up and made me regret taking the trolley. I would have saved a lot of money just going to the wineries I wanted myself and getting the tasting there at a place I wanted to go. I want to be clear that the wines were very nice and the wineries, except for one, were beautiful places. The food was also pretty good at VJB. My issue is with the winery selection being very limited and really all from the same vinter and the total cost. The last wine tour I was on included the cost of the tastings in the price, so all you had to do was enjoy the wine, the location, and the ambiance. That is what a wine tour should be. Not some glorified Uber ride, as someone else put it. Now, if you have never been to Sonoma and you don't mind all the extra fees, then this is an enjoyable experience, but I strongly suggest you check into either a different tour company or just doing the tour yourself.

A group of 15 friends decided the wine trolley would be a great way to visit a variety of wineries in the Sonoma area, and it was. We loved the trolley ride, but be prepared to dress warmly on chilly mornings. Our driver had a good microphone system but was still hard to hear once we were on the road. We really enjoyed the four wineries, one (Mayo) not as much as the others. Lunch at VBJ was delicious. All in all, the trip was just what we hoped for.

If it’s going to rain, be prepared for a change in vehicle. We had a limo bus instead of the open air trolley. Great experience. Full of history. Wonderful wineries. Delicious lunch. Fantastic tour guide. Paul was unique.

We had a great time on this wine tour. The open air trolley is more of a novelty, but as long as the weather is nice, which it was for us, then it's a great way to get around. It does get up to speed, so be prepared for some windy conditions! We enjoyed all 4 stops, some more than others, but that's just how wine tasting goes. Michael was our driver and he was great!
