Trou aux Cerfs
Travelers will visit Trou aux Cerfs, a dormant volcanic crater located in the heart of Curepipe. Rising about 605 meters above sea level, this natural wonder offers breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of Mauritius, including the central plateau, surrounding towns, and distant mountain ranges. Visitors can stroll around the crater’s rim, take memorable photos, and learn how this ancient volcano helped shape the island’s geography. On clear days, you can even spot the shimmering coastline in the distance. The peaceful setting and cool mountain breeze make Trou aux Cerfs a perfect first stop on your South Mauritius adventure.
Grand Bassin
Travelers will visit Grand Bassin, also known as Ganga Talao, one of the most sacred Hindu sites in Mauritius. Nestled in the lush highlands, this serene crater lake is believed to be linked to the holy River Ganges in India and is surrounded by beautiful temples and towering statues of Hindu deities. Visitors can explore the temple grounds, observe traditional offerings and rituals, and admire the 108-foot-tall statue of Lord Shiva, one of the tallest of its kind in the world. The peaceful atmosphere and spiritual significance make Grand Bassin not only a religious landmark but also a place of reflection and cultural discovery for travelers of all backgrounds.
