Begin your 8 hours tour with a hotel pick-up at your accommodation anywhere in Mauritius. You will meet & be greeted by our guide & after boarding to your comfortable vehicle, then set off for your first stop. Mare aux Vacoas is the largest freshwater reservoir in Mauritius. Surrounded by dense forests and cool misty air, Mare aux Vacoas lies at an elevation of about 600 meters above sea level, giving it a tranquil, almost mysterious atmosphere. The area is rich in native vegetation and is also close to other natural attractions such as Grand Bassin (Ganga Talao) and the Black River Gorges National Park. Due to its altitude, the region often experiences cooler temperatures and frequent rainfall, which helps replenish the reservoir. While primarily serving as an essential water source, Mare aux Vacoas is also admired for its peaceful landscape, making it a popular stop for nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking a quiet retreat amidst Mauritius’ lush greenery.
Grand Bassin
Then, drive to Ganga Talao which is a crater lake, about 550 meters above sea level. On the shoreline sits a temple along with a collection of small shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva and other gods. During your visit to this site, you will inevitably be awestruck by the gigantic statue of Lord Shiva. However, fear not about your doom, at Grand Bassin you will find the Hindu God Lord Shiva, smiling and as peaceful as ever. The statue is 33 meters high & is the highest known statue in Mauritius. Ganga Talao is a major draw of crowds in Mauritius, with many people visiting the site to pray, meditate, or simply to walk by the lake and enjoy the gorgeous surrounding views. The lake of Ganga Talao is thought to be around 18 meters deep with a healthy population of fish in the lake.

We had a fantastic day exploring the southern side of the island today. Darren our guide and driver for the day, was lovely. He was really informative, telling us all about mauritius, its rich history, its trade in sugar, tea and fruits, and Hinduism. We learnt so much from him and we're really grateful for the time he took to answer all of our questions about his island. We did the 1.5km zipline, our 8 year old son loved the crocodiles and giant tortoises and even got to hold a baby crocodile. He also loved watching a Hindu prayer ritual at the statues, which involved them smashing a coconut, and learning all about the volcano and its history about how it created the island. I would recommend this trip to anyone visiting mauritius

Manav was our guide for the tour. Everything went relaxed and implemented. The zoo was our highlight, with the turtles to pet. We could design the program individually and also stop for a short time at a supermarket, for example. Manav has a talent for photography. It was a great day out where we saw a lot of the south of the tropical island.

We had a wonderful day. Have seen a lot, ate well and a great guide. Price performance was right. Had enough time for each activity. We would do it again anytime.

The tour program was very good. Unfortunately, we expected a qualified tour – someone to accompany us and explain the sights. Instead, it felt more like we just booked a taxi: The driver took us to the locations and waited in the car while we toured. In addition, he sometimes drove over 190 km/h, which really scared us. Manav was absolutely flawless — attentive, informative, and so friendly throughout our tour. We managed to see so much, and he even bought snacks for the children, which was such a thoughtful touch! 😍 He took plenty of photos for us as a family and made sure we were never rushed. Although we couldn’t fit in all the sights in one day, Manav went above and beyond by organising an extra morning tour (for a small charge) so we could visit the places we’d missed. La Vanella Croc Park and the 23 Coloured Sands were fantastic, and the tea field tasting was an unexpected treat. Our children loved seeing the monkeys, pigs, chickens, tortoises, and crocodiles — it was a real highlight for them! We couldn’t have asked for a better guide. Thank you, Manav, for making our trip so special!

A relaxing and enjoyable way to view parts of the island otherwise unseen. Knowledgable and friendly driver, Agi, who made the day better with his approach. Feeding the giant tortoise and absolute highlight.
