Trogir

Diocletian’s Palace is the heart of Split and one of the most remarkable Roman monuments in the world. Built around 305 AD by the Roman emperor Diocletian as his retirement residence, the palace is more like a small city than a single building. Within its massive walls you’ll find a maze of narrow streets, lively squares, and centuries of history layered together. Highlights include the Peristyle, once the ceremonial courtyard; the Cathedral of St. Domnius, originally Diocletian’s mausoleum; and the underground cellars, which give you a sense of the palace’s original scale.
