Do NOT use this company. The driver I had for the day, Mervin, was excellent as a driver/guide, taking me to all the places I wanted to visit and some more besides. BUT the company was appalling to deal with. I booked the tour on 8th January, almost a month before the tour on 5th February. Although I was a solo traveller I had to pay for 2 people (ie double) in order for the tour to run. That made it very pricey but I wanted to see something of Saint Lucia so I agreed. On 4th February, they sent me via WhatsApp a link to pay them via their Pay Pal account. I replied immediately to explain that I haven't got a Pay Pal account because when I did have one it was hacked by somebody who used it to pay for online betting which cost me hundreds of pounds. I shut it down and vowed to never again use Pay Pal. In my reply to tourfortheday.com I said I would bring my card to pay on the day as had been the arrangement all along. At the start of the tour, I got my card out of my wallet and told Mervin I needed to pay. He said we could do it at the end of the day. At the end of the day, as we turned into the road where my hotel is situated, I again said that I still needed to pay for the day. I got out my card. Mervin pulled a face and said that he didn't have a card machine. He rang his company. They immediately sent me the following barrage of messages which I'll reproduce verbatim: Good day, We were told that you aren't able to find cash? We specifically gave you an option to pay via PayPal you said that you'd rather pay cash [Not true, I specifically said that I've got a card to make my payment - and at no stage did they warn me that they didn't take card payments] Please find the money to pay the driver for his service. Thank you You need to pay the driver his money He worked and you never made it known that you won't be able to get the money. We are going to take action against you if you don't pay up. We will also report you at harmony Suits This was unnecessary. I had volunteered to make the payment. $280 USD in XCD is a lot of cash to be carrying around. I don't have that much cash with me. I explained that I had the money on my card, ready to pay and that when I had said that in my message the previous evening, it had drawn no comment about not accepting card payments. The company phoned Mervin and told him to take me to the police station. This was now becoming utterly ridiculous because I was trying to pay via the method I had told them I would and which they hadn't batted an eyelid at. At the police station the officer on duty advised that although I hadn't done anything wrong and that the company (tourfortheday) was being unhelpful and aggressive in their messaging, it would be less trouble for me if I either set up a Pay Pal account or withdrew the cash from a bank's cash machine. I again explained that I had been burned before by Pay Pal so that option was out but that if I withdrew cash I would be charged by the bank here in Saint Lucia and by my bank at home for withdrawing from a cash machine overseas. This was obviously something I had sought to avoid by pre-loading the amount onto my card ready to pay for things on my holiday, such as this tour. Mervin kept saying that if I didn't pay him the cash he would get a written report and would lose his job, that he had a sick girfriend at home and a son who was locked out of the house because he'd mislaid his key. I was basically being guilt tripped by him to hurry up and pull the money out of the bank and be done with it. In fact, he repeatedly offered to pay me the foreign currency withdrawal fee out of his own pocket. The police officer encouraged me to take him up on this offer even though she acknowledged that his company was being very unhelpful. She even spoke to them on the phone (they had, incidentally, ignored a call from me). In the end I went with Mervin and another police officer to the bank, withdrew the cash and asked for a receipt. Mervin said that he was only the driver and didn't issue receipts. I kept trying to explain that it was a large amount of cash that I was handing over to somebody for a company which had had me taken to the police station when I was trying to pay them and that I wanted written acknowledgment from them that I had done so. I didn't want them to claim that I had not paid at all or had underpaid. When Mervin started driving away from the hotel and away from the police station to the other side of the bay, I began to fear that I was being abducted or that the situation was turning really nasty. They (Mervin and the police officer) made some cock-and-bull comment about the traffic being difficult - we had only needed to take a left hand turn to be on the correct road. Eventually we went back to my hotel, Mervin wrote a receipt but he declined to pay me the extra charges as he had promised repeatedly he would. Frankly the whole affair has ruined my holiday to Saint Lucia. I've been treated as a criminal and taken to the police station when I was trying to make the payment via the agreed - and surely extremely common - means of using a card. On top of paying double the individual amount to take the day tour, I've copped charges from the Saint Lucian bank and my own bank. This has all turned a superb day into a very unsavoury experience.
