Many guests see St. Stephen's cathedral plus or minus passing by. Some even take their time to shoot a quick pic from the inside, but few people dedicate themselves to this architectonic jewel, which also experienced big part of the city's history.

Special about this tour, is the fact, that it is never the same. This is due to being able to talk about St. Stephen's cathedral also a whole day long. Therefore also viennese people get a very unique and individual tour.

  • Large Historical Cathedral

A bit difficult to photo the whole church from the street. Pretty dark inside. A portable metal fence blocks the worship area from the lobby/narthex. Need to buy a tour to enter further, as many have stated; we skipped the tour (we kinda get churched out when every town you visit lists theirs as a main attraction). Decided against the tower climb also, as it was a rainy day.

We saw the cathedral in all its majesty, a splendid example of Habsburg construction. Church immersed in the historic center, in the evening illuminated in all its majesty. Beautiful to look at

The central St. Stephen's Cathedral is one of the symbols of the city. Its bell tower literally takes your breath away. At the main entrance are the "Gate of the Giants" and the two towers called "Torri dei Pagani". Externally, the roof is completely covered with tiles that form the coat of arms of the bicephalous eagle of the Habsburgs. The high altar houses a large painting presenting the Martyrdom of Saint Stephen. In short, a masterpiece in Gothic style that must be visited.

  • Disappointing

We entered the cathedral with the idea of climbing the southern tower and enjoying the view over Vienna. The ticket costs 5.50€ (cash only), you climb 343 steps up a very narrow spiral staircase that does not allow the passage of two people at the same time and, once you get to the top, what you can see is the panorama of Vienna from the dirty windows of the tower. Ah, I forgot, at the top there is not even a terrace or something, you get inside the souvenir shop and then you have to go down. 5.50€ really wasted.

Majestic architecture. Very detailed construction. Amazing view from the North Tower. Possibility to climb by elevator, yet is small. The church is beautiful with a grand organ.

Should definitely have looked at. I recommend a guided tour. Very interesting. The catacombs can also be visited with a guided tour. All quite informative and cheap.

During a stay in Vienna in 2006, I visited St. Stephen's Cathedral. Seen from the outside, it is not very attractive because of its lack of maintenance because I could not realize the architectural work (Gothic Building) but, once inside, the contrast is different and magnificent because of the quality of the works, objects and stained glass. The guide informed us and he was very careful with the group that a fine of €36 was provided for any offender who went beyond the chains that protect the works.
