After Stone town Enjoy a 30-minute boat ride with a view of the Stone Town skyline, after arriving on Prison Island your guide will teach you the history about the island and introduce you to the Giant tortoises.

Will take the boat ride again almost 30 minutes to the middle of Indian ocean where there is an amazing sandbank which is called Nakupenda which means i love you in Swahili language, enjoy the view of clear crystal water of Indian ocean, here you will have time for snorkelling which will let you enjoy the really marine life of Zanzibar which is unbelievable, Tropical fruits, soft drinks and Seafood platter lunch will be served.

Prison Island - Changuu Private Island

Enjoy a 30-minute boat ride with a view of the Stone Town skyline, after arriving on Prison Island your guide will teach you the history about the slave trade and the construction of the Prison which leaded the name of the island but in fact it was later used as quarantine hospital and introduce you to the Giant tortoises, This trip is so interesting.

The trip began with the guide Khalid and driver picking us up at 0830 before travelling to a port just outside Stone Town where we boarded a boat with another couple and headed to Prison Island. Khalid gave us a wonderful tour of the island with lots of information and time to read and explore the little museum. We then took the boat to Nakupenda where the tide was out and we had time to swim, snorkel (though there wasn’t much to see) and sunbath whilst Khalid expertly prepared a seafood lunch with his team. The final and best stop was Stone Town, where Khalid gave us a walking tour of the town by foot, pointing out historical and architectural insights, a spot of shopping and a ‘Welcome to Zanzibar’ video opportunity with the locals at the port. :) The most harrowing part of the tour was sitting in the dungeon where slaves were kept… a very emotional moment. After visiting the market, Khalid and his driver returned us to our hotel having had an interesting cultured day exploring Zanzibar.

Stone town was amazing and we loved Prison Island with its giant Tortoises. The sand bank was a bit busy and a little bit disappointing, but we loved the tour overall and our guide Sultan was excellent.

We did not do our excursion. It was storming from the previous night and through the day of our excursions. We called to cancel and was told by the tour guide that there was no rain in that area, which was not true. They insisted on picking us up from our hotel. A relative of one of my travel partners who lives near Stone Town verified that it had been storming all morning. The rain continued when we arrived. We insisted on being returned to our hotel and asked for a refund. Later, the tour company issued a partial refund. I find this unacceptable. They knew it was raining and were purposely deceptive. It continued to rain for hours. We could not have taken boat rides and snorkel. I do not recommend this excursion due to the local tour company that provides the service and their dishonesty.

Despite the rain, the tour guide was good, very professional and gave me the best time. I would do this tour again in the future. The food was good as well.
