Royal National Park
Our journey begins as we leave Sydney and enter the spectacular Royal National Park, the second oldest national park in the world. As we wind our way through this pristine coastal wilderness, you will experience a dramatic shift from the bustling city to lush Australian bushland. This is the perfect, peaceful introduction to the Grand Pacific Drive, offering glimpses of hidden beaches and rugged sandstone cliffs before we hit the open ocean road.
Bald Hill Lookout & Hang Gliding Spot
Perched high above the coastline at Stanwell Tops, Bald Hill Lookout offers one of the most iconic panoramic vistas in Australia. From this world-famous vantage point, you will enjoy a spectacular bird's-eye view of the Sea Cliff Bridge as it snakes along the rugged Illawarra escarpment. This site is internationally renowned as a premier hang-gliding destination, and you will often see colourful gliders launching into the sea breeze right before your eyes. It also holds a significant place in Australian history as the site where aviation pioneer Lawrence Hargrave first experimented with box kites in the 1890s. Sweeping coastal views stretch from the Royal National Park in the north down to the distant horizon of Wollongong in the south — an unmissable photography stop that perfectly captures the scale and beauty of the Grand Pacific Drive.
