The Taste of Hawthorne walking food and farm tour is designed for foodies by foodies. You’ll experience one of Portland's most eclectic and historic neighborhoods, just 10 minutes from downtown, and taste your way around the world right here in Portland from lunch to late-night bites and specialty sips. The food tour takes place on SE Hawthorne Blvd which is a quintessential Portland street lined with vintage shops, boutiques, hat stores, record stores, cafés and food from here and around the world. It’s ripe with global fare made with local ingredients. You'll learn our local history while enjoying the curated menu and you’ll meet the owners and chefs behind it all. Vegetarians and gluten-freers have their own curated menus and we can also accommodate people who don’t drink alcohol or like spicy food. You'll also have the unique opportunity to tour a backyard urban farm with fruit and nut trees, berries, veggies and the Chicken Schitts - Moira, Twyla, Alexis and Stevie.

What To Expect

Your guide will meet you at the Belmont Multnomah County Library. After a bit of history you'll tour a backyard urban farm growing apples, plums, hazelnuts, cherries, berries and all kinds of veggies. You'll also meet the Chicken Schitts - Moira, Alexis, Stevie and Twyla and then head to Hawthorne for your food tour while getting detailed history about the area. You will not leave hungry! Bites and sips will add up to a very hearty meal.

A unique experience! You get to explore an urban farm and get to know a great neighborhood. Plus you get to meet the flock of chickens which was a highlight for me. The tour guide Timoney is super nice and knowledgeable. The stops that she curated showcased the Hawthorne neighborhood. I highly recommend this tour!

The tour guide, Timoney, was a wonderful host for our experience. You start going around her farm that she has cultivated and learning about the science behind growing various fruits and vegetables. There were many farm-fresh and tasty varieties of peppers, cucumbers, blueberries, and more. After the tour of her farm, you’ll get to eat at a variety of restaurants based in different cultures, all while Timoney stops along the way to point out historical spots in Portland’s Hawthorne neighborhood and give background information. She knew the area like the back of her hand and my family and I were very impressed. You’ll stop at the farm and five different eateries to eat along the tour, well worth the price of admission in terms of value. Especially with Timoney, one of the friendliest and most intellectual tour guides you’ll ever have. Thanks for an awesome experience in Portland!

Timoney was a fantastic host. I appreciated her showing me around her charming backyard farm; the cucumber, strawberries, and blueberries that were fresh from the garden were so yummy. I also enjoyed exploring the Hawthorne neighborhood. Every food/drink stop was so yummy and very friendly restaurant owners that were happy to interact with us. Overall great experience. There was plenty to explore in the neighborhood after the tour as well. Made for a great morning and afternoon.

Timoney's tour was really lovely and a lot of fun! And what a wonderful highlight to see her gorgeous urban garden and try some goodies. We loved all the places she took us and she shared great historic stories along the way. It was a great few hours- like hanging with a local friend. Highly recommend!

Had such a great time with Timoney. She was very knowledgeable and eager to share all the information she knew. Her passion really shown through and I had a blast eating and drinking with her. The choices they made for this tour were excellent, you won't regret it and will definitely leave full and happy. Thanks so much for such a good time!

Oh man... this was SO MUCH FUN. Timoney is an incredible guide. Went with a fun group. Had the best bites at several killer restaurants and amazing cocktails along the way. I would do this again in a heartbeat. Have you ever gone to a city and spent some time there, but left feeling like you didn't really get the vibe of the place? Portland is a special, weird, funky, mysterious, and utterly unique city and this tour captures all of that and more. Don't go to a restaurant. Put yourself in Timoney's knowledgable, funny, friendly hands and get a deeper insight into what it's like to live in Portlandia!!!

Timoney's a great guide with lots of interesting history about the area. Meeting the chefs and owners was a highlight. We get a 20% discount for Tender Loving Empire, a cool shop with local goods from oregon, to use after the tour. the Hawthorne area shouldn't be missed on your trip to portland. It's an amazing neighborhood for food and shopping. Hat shops, the backyard farm and chickens were a nice feature.
10/10 would recommend, tasty and fun!

Our food tour was such a great experience! Ive lived in Portland for 3 years and had a great time learning about the history and finding new spots I hadnt been to before. Timoney was a wealth of knowledge and is clearly loved by the neighborhood! Id definitely recommend this tour to anyone!

Timoney was a great guide. She was very informative about the places we visited and some general trivia. The food was great - well worth the price. My fav part, though, was the tour of Timoney's backyard garden - amazing!
