What To Expect

Santa Marta

Hotel or accommodation pickup in Santa Marta. Meet your certified local tour guide and driver, then start the private transfer to Tayrona National Park along the road that borders the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. On the way, your guide will explain about the region, briefly introduce the plan for the day and answer your first questions.

At the El Zaino main entrance, your certified guide will personally handle all tickets, insurance, and visitor registration — no need to wait in line. During this time, you’ll be free to use the restroom, buy snacks or water, or pick up any last-minute items. Once everything is ready, you’ll meet your guide again and continue by private vehicle into the park, heading toward the starting point of the hike: Cañaveral

An amazing experience. We took a tour with Caesar of the Tayrona we would repeat for sure. They also helped us with the journey to the airport and Cartagena, a 10.

Cesar is the best! He was a very careful and knowledgable guide. He handled tickets ahead of time so we didn't have to wait in line, and he knows every tricky spot on the trails. He also helped arrange a half-day tour for us to a different part of the Park (shout out to David who was also wonderful!). Highly recommend supporting Cesar's small business.

Cesar is an incredible guide! Our experience was a little unique: We met Cesar through a mutual friend in Santa Marta and he gave us all the info we needed to visit & hike at Tayrona by ourselves. We were nervous about where to go, what we had to pay for, etc, but he sat with us for like 30 minutes straight and broke it all down step-by-step so we knew exactly what to expect, from the need to hop out of the park ticket line to buy our trip insurance before we got to the counter, to what time we needed to get there & leave by in order to complete the trip safely in one day. He is kind, patient, extremely knowledgeable and well-connected, and just a great dude! Highly recommend Cesar for any tour/travel needs!

Our experience with this tour was outstanding. We were driving from 2 hours away and our guide and Cesar made sure to pick a safe spot to leave our car. The tour was customized to us and I was surprised by all of their knowledge and how nice they all were. Thank you for a great experience!

We booked a day trip with Cesar after reading reviews on TripAdvisor and linked up with him on WhatsApp directly to arrange the tour. Cesar was always professional and courteous, as well as extremely efficient, and we paid him via PayPal, and all was just great. It turned out that Cesar couldn't do the trip himself, but came to the hotel to introduce Alej, his mentor, as our guide. Alex was fun, friendly, and informative. We had a lovely day. Juan, the kind driver, also spoke very good English and was a safe driver too. The walk itself was reasonably arduous for 4 over 60's but not due to the terrain as much as it being a 15km return trip in the humidity. But we all managed it without any issues. We saw and heard monkeys, different types of lizards, crabs, frogs, birds and abundant flora and fauna. A great swim and lunch at the natural piscina beach. It was a wonderful day. My only commentary would be that the walk from Piscina beach to Cabo San Juan adds another km or so each way, and the Cabo was pretty, but very crowded when we got there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. I think we would skip that part next time as it was the only part of the day that was less than completely perfect (and nothing to do with Cesar or Alex, just our preference for peace and natural beauty, minus too many people!). We recommend Cesar and Alex without any hesitation. Thank you, guys!
