Metekhi Cathedral
Virgin Mary Metekhi church is located on the left bank of the river Mtkvari, on the cliff plateau. The first church on this place was probably built by Vakhtang Gorgasali, symbolically resembling the church built on virgin Mary’s tomb in Gethsemane garden in Jerusalem. According to the legend, the former catholicos Kirion transferred the saint Shushanik to this church in the 7th century.

5.00Fantastic city tour with Ella the Law student. We could not have had a better experience. A small group size, a perfect mix of history, culture, food, politics. Honestly, this tour was next level. It included a pastry and lemonade from an authentic bakery and the cable car ride to Mother Georgia. We have done many city walking tours but going to a church where a funeral was taking place was a first. Everything about this tour with Ella was perfection and I think it was the best value we have had from any Viator experience.
