I recently did El Sendero del Aullador with Taroa Adventures, guided by Olinto (“Ollie”), and it was honestly one of the most inspiring trips I’ve ever taken. From the very first WhatsApp message, you could feel his professionalism and care: clear instructions, what to bring, safety tips, and even small details like clothing recommendations to protect us from the elements. On the trail, Ollie was incredibly attentive, calm, and patient, always checking how everyone was doing. His knowledge of the forest, wildlife, and local culture is impressive, and he explains everything in a way that makes you feel both safe and deeply connected to the place. I never once felt rushed or worried – we were in very good hands. What really stood out is that his care didn’t stop when the tour ended. Afterwards, he sent us fantastic recommendations for places to visit and eat in Cartagena, and they turned out to be some of the best spots of our entire trip. If we ever go to Santa Marta or anywhere else in this region, I honestly wouldn’t want to go without Ollie as our guide. 100% recommended – both Taroa Adventures and especially Ollie.

Olinto from Tarao adventures and crew did an amazing job of taking us for a long hike. They come well prepared with very proactive plan. We were able to see all 3 types of monkeys - endsngered tamarin, howling and capuchin monkeys along with diversity of birds. It is a good hike if you are in Cartagena.

Olito is a great guide. He has a personal relationship with everyone you meet. And it's a great opportunity to learn about the area and what Colombians thinks about political events, tourism as an industry, etc. On the hike, our conversations are all about nature but in the car, I was more interested in Colombian culture, history, political climate, challenges, and real advantages. As for the hike, be prepared to see things that you didn't expect...and NOT see see things that you hope to. These animals aren't in a cage so there's no guarantee you'll see a howler monkey. We didn't. We heard them. We got very close. But never saw one. We did see the little tamarins, a snake, frogs, snails, all sorts of weird trees and bugs. (I think Olinto likes the bugs the most.) What to bring: tips for everyone involved. I learned from a different guide that most Colombians make only $2 American dollars a day on average. There's a constant hustle. So your $10 can really make a difference to someone. Light weight clothes that will protect you from bugs but not overheat you. That Colombian humidity is no joke. You will be sweaty even when not working hard. Bug repellent. The mosquitos are plentiful.

Extraordinary experience with Oli and Jesus on this hike. Everything about the trip was easy and straightforward. This is a unique ecosystem with remarkable biodiversity. It was thrilling to see the critically endangered wooly capped tamarins that are endemic to this area, as well as a wide range of beautiful birds, insects, and animals (see photos). I highly recommend this trip for birders and naturalists who want to experience this remarkable part of the natural world.

I highly recommend this experience. Oli was our guide during a very memorable hike in the Colombian dry forest. During the trek we saw several groups of cotton-top tamarins and red howler monkeys, along with other interesting birds and smaller critters. Howler vocalizations often filled the forest, making the experience even more thrilling. The provided breakfast and lunch were very good, and the breaks gave us a chance to learn about Colombia and get to know one another. I really appreciated Oli's communication leading up to the hike and his punctuality, but especially his friendly demeanor and passion for his country's flora and fauna. I've been fortunate to book similar experiences around the world, but our day with Oli stands out. Thank you!

On one of our last days in Cartagena, me and my mom decided to do this tour. I wanted to see some of the wildlife in the area and the tour was very suitable for this. The area where we hiked was the tropical dry forest and this was really a hidden gem.We have felt safe and at ease everywhere thanks to the good guidance of our guide Olinto. Olinto speaks good English and if you have special interests in terms of animals you want to see you can also indicate this to him and extra attention will be paid to that. All in all a top experience and definitely recommended to visit the flora and fauna of the Caribbean coast of Colombia.

Awesome experience! My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. He picks you up, takes you to good places to eat, gives an authentic experience, shares plenty of knowledge, and you cannot forget about the monkeys! We were fortunate to see many in our time of the year and even a rare parrot along with a tarantula. This tour is must especially if you enjoy nature and want to get away from the Cartagena night life.

A great way to see a different side of Cartagena. Olinto, the tour guide, was fantastic. It is clear he is doing this for the love of the game. Since landing in Colombia it has been my goal to see some monkeys, and this tour accomplished that goal. Olinto starts the day by picking you up early in the morning then taking you to a local spot for breakfast that you would not otherwise experience as a tourist. From there we went to the trail where we met two others who live nearby and assist Olinto with the tour. As soon as we started on the trail we could hear the howler monkeys in the distance howling away as they do. Within 5 minutes we were able to spot a family of cotton top tamarins. Throughout the tour Olinto is explaining the different insects and plant species we are happening upon. The other local guides are also keeping their eyes open and pointing out interesting animal, insect, and plant life. Along the way beside the countless unique insects and plant life we saw another group of tamarins as well as 3 different families of Red Howlers as well as a mother and baby howler monkey. After the hike Olinto took us out to lunch at another local spot that tourists would otherwise not experience. A word to the wise if Olinto asks you if you want to try the fish soup say yes. It was a fantastic appetizer. Overall I cannot recommend this hike enough for nature lovers who want a different experience from Cartagena.
