We had a fantastic day with Taroa tours. Olinto was a brilliant guide! We were lucky enough to see Cotton Top Tamarins and Howler Monkeys on the trail, as well as birds, butterflies and even a Boruga. Both breakfast and lunch on the way back were delicious. Don’t hesitate to book this hike!

We had an incredible day with Olinto. He gave us an amazing tour through the tropical dry forest. We saw lots of wildlife, including very rare cotton top tamarin monkeys and birds. The hike was very rewarding and not too challenging. Olinto is fill of knowledge and made sure we didn’t lack anything. I can highly recommend!

Olinto is a wonderful, knowledgeable guide who customized our tour just for us. The Howling Trail near Cartagena is a must if you love the outdoors and want to see the local flora and fauna. The sound (and site) of Howler monkeys will stay with me for life. It’s also a great way to escape the noise and hustle of the city for a day, but be prepared for the heat. Also, this is not a public trail, so be ready for some off-grid hiking.

We enjoyed our hike in the forest with Olinto. He is a guide passionate about nature and anxious to educate us about the flora and fauna of the dry rainforest. Hiking is easy and accessible for people who do not hike regularly. Olinto provides boots as there are sometimes muddy places/waterways to cross. We appreciated Olino’s concern for our comfort and hiking experience. Besides, he speaks very good English. We highly recommend this activity which makes us see another part of the Cartagena region

We loved the Howling Trail Hike with Olinto from Taroa Adventures! The day started by Olinto picking us up & driving us about 40 minutes outside of Cartagena to a local restaurant where we had an excellent & filling breakfast while he explained Colombia’s geography & described the biodiversity the area is home to. Eventually, we got to the trailhead which was behind a private property owned by locals that Olinto had befriended & gotten permission from to hike from their backyard. It was clear from the beginning that Olinto really cares about his business - he was very interested in what we were hoping to gain from the experience & had an evident respect for the nature we were walking through. Two locals from the community accompanied Olinto on our hike, which provided another opportunity to gain an additional perspective on the surrounding area. During the hike, we saw all three of the monkey species that are native to the area, which was super cool & memorable. The locals were excellent at identifying the monkeys in the trees & were helpful in pointing them out to us. Olinto was incredibly knowledgeable on the nature & plants in the area and we learned so much! The hike was about three hours long & while the flat terrain wasn’t difficult to hike, I’d say the biggest challenge was the humidity & the heat. I’d recommend wearing long pants & a long, breathable top (or layers) because of the bugs. I’d also definitely suggest wearing bug spray. The experience was truly special & exactly what we were looking for - we were immersed in nature & local culture and guided by Olinto who so clearly has a deep respect for the local inhabitants of the region, the animals the forest is home to & wildlife in general. Once we finished the hike & said goodbye to our local guides, we made the drive back to the restaurant where we had lunch. Just as breakfast had been, lunch was amazing. My boyfriend got the mojarra which he said was one of the best he’d ever had. During lunch, we had a great conversation with Olinto about his experience growing up & living in Colombia and learned a lot about his role owning Taroa Adventures for the last decade. I highly reccomend Taroa Adventures if you’re looking to be active, learn a lot & support a local small business. It was seriously one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had throughout my travels.

This was an excellent walk through the dry jungle. We saw two species of monkeys, and many species of birds. The guide was as knowledgeable, respectful and responsible to guests and to the natural environment. Communication before the trip was excellent. Breakfast and lunch was Included - typical and delicious local food. Transportation was in a new Mercedes van- clean and with ample AC. The hike was meandering, which was the right pace in the heat. The monkeys were the highlight of- both red howling monkeys the critically endangered cotton headed tamarins. I highly recommend this adventure.

We had a great experience, Olinto showed us a side of Columbia we could not experience without him and his team. Also amazing that it was only us, no other tourist or people on the entire preserve except local farmers and a family living there. We went with our family, aged 10 to adults and all enjoyed the hike, we saw monkeys and other animals and the team did a great job explaining the ecosystem, fauna and animals. We also enjoyed an excellent lunch and will definitely do this again. I highly recommend Olinto and his team.

Olinto is a fantastic tour guide with exceptional knowledge of the land, history, and hidden gems. He was clear and kind in helping us make arrangements and we loved spending the day with him. His relationships with local landowners made the trip even more special.
