Sefton Park
Walking in and around the stunning Victorian oasis that is Sefton Park, you’ll see why it was named in 2024 by The Times as one of the Best Places To Live in the UK, Sefton Park stretches lazily across 235 acres of tranquil, stunning landscapes and waterways. It is a true gem in our city’s crown, with a fascinating history of it’s own, but the park’s role as home and inspiration to so many musicians over the years since it opened, as a backdrop, as artists’ muse and even today as a live venue is what we’re here to talk about. From Bjork to the Bunnymen, from early Arctic Monkeys to the smash hits of Atomic Kitten to Africa Oyé - The UK’s largest free celebration of African Music and Culture. It’s all here. From George Melly, George Formby and George Harrison to park design legend Edouard André, Jamie Webster and The 1975. From Frankie to The Farm. From to Love to The La’s, Pulp to The Stone Roses...you get the idea. Not everything's about The Beatles (even if we do mention them)!

Had a great time on this guided walk. Paul is a mine of information - some of it obscure, lots of it funny, and all of it shared in his inimitable style. I turned up on my own, but that wasn’t an issue at all, billy no-mates need not fear. This is also a really beautiful area to walk around - if you’re not familiar with this bit of Liverpool, you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Dead easy to get to the start of the walk, too, it’s right by the train station. Definitely recommended.

A wonderful meander around gorgeous Sefton Park & Lark Lane, myths exploded rumours and gossip - you’ll get the inside scoop from one of Liverpools most knowledgeable hosts. There’s stories a plenty from the halcyon days of the 70s & 80s - what might have influenced that eruption of creative talent? Paul has a theory. There are names your parents would have known and how they all influenced what we hear today. The unquestionable spirit of Liverpools creative community is brought to life and stitched together beautifully. Hear about how an apprentice electrician ended up…nah, youll have to wait for Paul to tell you. What was lovely was the shared knowledge from the other people on the tour who contributed to the many conversations.

What a great 2 hours. Paul shows that there is more to the Liverpool music scene than the Beatles and he intertwines stories of 80’s bands with beautiful architecture around Sefton park.

We had an informative, historical and highly entertaining tour of the Sefton Park area , living locally but never knowing the stories behind the properties we had passed countless times , this tour was a great way to find an alternative local history . The history and famous residents of the area gives Paul a lot to talk about and we thoroughly enjoyed our walk with him.
