We booked our tour based on a personal recommendation and we were told to expect a special day during which we would learn all about the amazing island of Barbados from Mike who has lived here all of his life. The day started really well as Mike arrived early to pick us up in his spotlessly clean shiny people carrier, he was clearly excited to see us and handed out nice cold bottles of water to keep us well hydrated throughout the long day ahead, our tour lasted just under seven hours but that did include a stop for lunch at the stunning Bathsheba Bay. As we set off Mike gave us an outline of our itinerary for the day and encouraged us to ask as many questions as we could to ensure that no stone was left unturned on our journey around this tropical paradise. Mike is very clearly a man in love with his homeland and he is very knowledgeable about it to, basically he knows a great deal about the history of Barbados and explains how the island has evolved since its discovery through time including gaining independence right through to the present day. He gave us a fascinating insight into the people, culture and social history of the island, often relating it to his own experiences here growing up and living here all of his life, even down to taking his “O” levels just the same as we had back in the UK. The tour however is not just a history lesson, we were also treated to some incredible sights as were driven all over the island with numerous stops for photo opportunities, comfort breaks and a great lunch stop at Bathsheba. It was a fantastic day out we saw parts of the island that we would never have found without his guidance and at each stop we were regaled with stories about the history that has shaped Barbados, helping it become the true paradise that it is today, Mike’s passion for his homeland is infectious and we were all privileged to share our time with him and ended the day tired but happy after a fantastic day out with this charming friendly man.

Michael was extremely friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and provided a plethora of information about Barbados, the island, the people and the history. He made the day truly enjoyable and we could not have asked for a more pleasant experience.

This was an up-close and personal tour of the island of Barbados. Mike is a thoughtful, patient and generous guide. He adapted our tour throughout the day, accommodating us whenever we wanted to spend a little extra time at any location. We never felt rushed. His introduction to each location was informative, insightful and filled with personal anecdotes that brought the scene to life. In the lead-up to our tour, his wife, Sue, was a pleasure to deal with. She helped customise our itinerary and checked in on us regularly in the lead up to our tour date. If you want to learn about island life and the history of Barbados, you won't go wrong with Mike's Real Barbados Island Tour. If you have a little extra time on the island, I recommend squeezing a visit to St. Nicholas Abbey. The old homestead gives you a good sense of colonial life during the island's colonial plantation era. It stood in stark contrast to the numerous demountable homes we drove past. The emancipated slaves lived in these modest homes during the same period.

If this is your first time here, and want to do a tour,we recommend this one. You see parts of east and west coasts and the very northern section. Beautiful views and the difference between the coasts is amazing.

A very nice tour on which we were lucky enough to be led across the island by Mike only as a couple. We learned a lot about the country and were always away from the excursion buses. We can only recommend the tour and Mike from the heart!

★★★★★ An Unforgettable Private Tour with Mike in Barbados During my visit to Barbados, I had the incredible opportunity to spend six hours touring the island with Mike, and it was truly one of the most memorable parts of my trip. Mike went above and beyond by giving me a private tour on his day off, which speaks volumes about his generosity and dedication. From the moment we started, he was welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about sharing the beauty and history of Barbados. Throughout the tour, Mike took me to breathtaking spots, shared fascinating local insights, and made sure I experienced the island in a way that felt personal and authentic. His storytelling and deep knowledge of the culture made every stop even more meaningful. It never felt rushed—he took the time to ensure I truly enjoyed each location. What made the experience even more special was Mike’s warm personality. He was engaging, thoughtful, and clearly proud of his island, which made the tour feel less like a service and more like spending the day exploring with a friend who loves where they live. If you’re visiting Barbados and have the chance to tour with Mike, don’t hesitate. It’s an experience that will absolutely enrich your trip. Thank you, Mike, for making my time in Barbados so special! 🌴☀️🚗

Words cannot describe how much we enjoyed our island tour with Mike. Arrived prompt and was an excellent guide his knowledge of Barbados is exceptional. He explained everything as we went along, answered any questions and was really passionate about his island. We stopped at St James Parish church where he showed us around and gave an insight into it being the first church built and why every parish has a church. The animal flower caves were really good We visited the highest point on the island before taking lunch in St Andrews. We learnt all about the sugar plantations and sugar industry The stop at Bathsheba was amazing where we had a lovely rum punch. Normally critical of tours, this one was certainly 10 out of 10 and would probably say even greater than that. Visiting Barbados then book this tour

First, Mike arrived promptly at our hotel as scheduled. Everything following was exceptional. We decided to do the private tour instead of the small group tour because we knew we were not going to participate in the cave visit. As Mike proudly shared the Barbados culture with us, we were glad we booked this tour over other choices. He is extremely knowledgable about his country and makes you feel more like family as the trip goes along. He goes in depth about the history of Barbados and what each parish offers. Each of the stops he made provided a glimpse into what life is like on the island from a resident's perspective and not just "touristy" places. When we stopped at Bathsheba, it was beautiful and relaxing. But, the best part was getting a taste of Sue's rum punch!!! It puts any rum punch we've ever had to shame. LOL. Do yourself a favor, small group or private, you will be glad you booked. Mike and Sue are true professionals and it reflects in their company.

Sue from Mike’s Maxi Taxi was amazingly helpful when Virgin Atlantic put back our flight, leaving us with a >12 hour wait. She specially arranged a six-hour tour clockwise around the coastline, taking in most of the major sights and a bewildering number of different ambiences. The star, however, was our driver and guide, Mike himself. With his dreadlocks, Bajan accent, and laid-back manner, he was perfect for the job, and a wonderful host. We had lots of laughs all day, but we were particularly impressed by the quality of his narrative – a more considered and insightful commentary than we had experienced at most destinations on our Caribbean cruise. The answers he gave to our questions were truthful, interesting, and never glib. And he gave the impression of enjoying it almost as much as we did! Highly recommended.
