Immerse yourself in the silence of the Atacama Desert and discover one of the most beautiful night skies on Earth. A short drive from San Pedro de Atacama, far from the village lights, millions of stars appear above you and the Milky Way stretches across the desert sky.
The Roofless Experience is a small-group astronomical experience that combines telescope observation, astronomical storytelling and a relaxed atmosphere under the stars. With 4 powerful telescopes, you’ll observe stars, nebulae, star clusters and southern constellations as your guide explains the science and history behind the cosmos in an engaging and accessible way.
In between observations, relax under the stars with a glass of wine, hot chocolate or tea and rich snacks, warmed with warm blankets.
To complete the night, each guest receives a professional photo under the Atacama sky, capturing a unique memory under one of the most spectacular skies on the planet.

San Pedro de Atacama
The tour begins with the pick-up of passengers at the accommodation, this usually takes approximately 30 minutes, then we will move to our facilities about 7km outside of San Pedro where our guide will wait for them.
We will give you a brief welcome talk and take souvenir photographs. It is very important to come with warm, light-colored clothing. Afterwards we will have a short talk about astronomy related to star formation and the use of telescopes. Finally, we will use the 14-inch telescopes to discover the universe, where you can enjoy, depending on the date of your trip, different types of stars, nebulae, planets and other objects that will leave you speechless.

Great guide. He gave us a great tour of the night sky. Helped us set up our iPhones to take great astronomical photos. Explored the arm of the Milky Way, different stars and planets. The technical telescope he used was very good. He helped us understand the universe and our place in it. A wonderful night indeed.

Fantastic experience, led by a really knowledgeable guide Jhonatan. The explanations were all informative and he followed up with the incredible pictures very shortly after the experience

Jhonatan and his team were incredibly knowledgable and the absolute highlight was clearly seeing Jupiter, and the Milky Way through the telescopes as well as shooting stars. The additional charcuterie board and drinks were a really nice touch to have while we listening to Jhonatan’s astronomy talk. We also had professional photos taken which showed the incredible night sky, stars and the Milky Way and we were shown how to take proper photos of the sky and stars using our phones. 10/10 experience that I would highly recommend.

Our entire trip to Atacama was fenomenal, but this tour was the highlight of the trip. We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. Pictures will never depict the astonishing scenery. We felt out in the space. It is unreal. Well the scenery is there, given by nature and God but having a company that complement the experience is a must and Jonathan from Atacama Tours exceed our expectations. We received the best service, very educational, informative, friendly. They paid attention to every detail with knowledge and passion. Thank you Jonathan for an experience out of this world. All the starts of the sky for you and your company. Pictures are fabulous.

We are space nerds at heart. This tour, played directly into our love. The tour guide Jonathon, was so incredibly inspired, insightful, and genuinely interested in not only what he was doing, but also in us as guests. By the end of the very short night, he knew all 12 guests by name, showed and shared with us some wonderful facts about the night sky, and showed us some incredible sights through the telescopes.

My wife and I booked this because we wanted to see the dark sky while visiting San Pedro and Atacama. What made the experience even more amazing was Jhonatan. He was fantastic! He was so passionate and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this experience to someone else.

This was a beautiful experience. It's good for novices like me and experienced star gazers without access to giant telescopes like my husband. We both enjoyed the experience because Jhonatan was very knowledgeable and yet made it simple for people like me who didn't know much about about stars. It was engaging ,soulful and very calming experience. We enjoyed a delicious snack as well as some great professional grade oic opportunity.
