Immerse yourself in the silence of the Atacama Desert and discover one of the most beautiful night skies on Earth. A short drive from San Pedro de Atacama, far from the village lights, millions of stars appear above you and the Milky Way stretches across the desert sky.
The Roofless Experience is a small-group astronomical experience that combines telescope observation, astronomical storytelling and a relaxed atmosphere under the stars. With 4 powerful telescopes, you’ll observe stars, nebulae, star clusters and southern constellations as your guide explains the science and history behind the cosmos in an engaging and accessible way.
In between observations, relax under the stars with a glass of wine, hot chocolate or tea and rich snacks, warmed with warm blankets.
To complete the night, each guest receives a professional photo under the Atacama sky, capturing a unique memory under one of the most spectacular skies on the planet.

San Pedro de Atacama
The tour begins with the pick-up of passengers at the accommodation, this usually takes approximately 30 minutes, then we will move to our facilities about 7km outside of San Pedro where our guide will wait for them.
We will give you a brief welcome talk and take souvenir photographs. It is very important to come with warm, light-colored clothing. Afterwards we will have a short talk about astronomy related to star formation and the use of telescopes. Finally, we will use the 14-inch telescopes to discover the universe, where you can enjoy, depending on the date of your trip, different types of stars, nebulae, planets and other objects that will leave you speechless.

This was a beautiful experience. It's good for novices like me and experienced star gazers without access to giant telescopes like my husband. We both enjoyed the experience because Jhonatan was very knowledgeable and yet made it simple for people like me who didn't know much about about stars. It was engaging ,soulful and very calming experience. We enjoyed a delicious snack as well as some great professional grade oic opportunity.

We made the astronomical visit and had a great night. The guides super friendly and with very good explanations, the sky of Atacama honoring its fame and unforgettable telescope observations. It is a must-see experience in San Pedro that reminds us how small we are and how wonderful the universe is.

We had an amazing time joining The Roofless Experience tour. I’ve never seen so many stars and a few shooting stars as bonus. Jhonatan was very knowledgeable about astronomy and showed us a variety of stars and nebulas. The highlight was seeing Jupiter with its band and moons. Credits also to Diego who helped setup the whole experience.

It came across more as a date night experience, with snacks, wine and hot chocolate offered and a photo with the night sky. If you love astronomy and want an in depth experience with detailed description and understanding this is not your tour. If you're going on a date night with someone who wants to see a few stars and doesn't want their brain to hurt from processing a lot of information late at night, this would work

The tour was very well organized since the moment we bought it here. Everything was very timely and well communicated. We were only 6 people on the tour, so it felt very private. I learnt a lot about the stars and planets we saw, and at the same time it did not feel like too much, that I would forget it as soon as I heard it :) Also, the snacks and drinks were amazing, the whole atmosphere felt very cosy.

We loved the whole tour! Sitting under the stars, drinking wine and hot chocolate while learning a lot about the world around us was truly one of the highlights of our trip to Chile! It is a certain must do, especially as this tour was very well organized.

We had an amazing time with The Roofless Experience in SPdA. The small group format made the night feel personal and immersive. Jhonatan and his assistant were knowledgeable, taking their time to explain the southern sky in detail while guiding us through views of stars, planets, and distant galaxies. One of the highlights for me was seeing both the large and Small Magellanic Cloud galaxies. The cherry on the top was Jhonatan photographing each guest with the dark Atacama sky as a backdrop. The entire experience was thoughtful, educational, and truly magical. Highly recommended.
