We did a tea ceremony, flower arrangement, and calligraphy workshop. When we arrived, we were both able to choose a kimono. I opted for an Okinawan style, bingata, which tends to be brighter colors and a smoother fabric than traditional Japanese kimonos. The Tea Master explained step by step how to purify our hands, and even crawling through the tea house, admiring the flowers, etc. I enjoyed the sweets and the matcha tea. Then we did our calligraphy workshop and were able to keep our practice drafts. We wrote tornado because we live in Oklahoma and Shiba Inu, a Japanese breed of dog bred for royalty. Our nod to Hachiko. We ended with a flower arrangement which was a lot of delicate work and details. It was fun. We were able to keep one of our arrangements, and we gifted it to our bed and breakfast host. After we finished, the Tea Master led us through her beautiful and peaceful garden outside. Truly, a memorable experience.

The Sando experience was truly remarkable. Each detail was laid out so nicely and my friend and I throughly enjoyed each element. The calligraphy was very interesting and the instructor was patient and kind. I have done two other tea ceremonies in the past, but this tea ceremony provided an experience unlike any other. The entire ceremony, from the cleansing, to crawling through the tearoom entrance, to pouring our own water from a traditional kettle to make Matcha tea…it was something I will remember forever! The flower arranging was also very interesting and I learned so much about the Japanese style of flower arranging. I highly recommend the full Sando experience and would love to bring any guests we may have here to enjoy it as well.

I joined my colleagues recently for a wonderful " Sando" tea ceremony. We were guided from the beginning to the end by a team of true professionals. I believe anyone who is visiting Okinawa and would like to feel immersed into Japanese culture then this activity is a must. Thank you again for a memorable experience
