What To Expect
Tikal National Park
Tikal National Park is the most excavated (Mayan?) archaeological site in Central America and one of the most excavated (archaeological) sites in the world. It covers some 57,600 hectares of wetlands and forests and encompasses architectural remains of the Mayan civilization dating from 600 BC to 900 AD. Tikal is the only natural and cultural UNESCO World Heritage site in Central America and one of few in the world with both designations. As such, Tikal is considered one of the top 20 tourist sites in the world and a must-see. Route: Flores - Tikal - Flores Tikal Hotels - Tikal - Tikal Hotels 6.45am meet you at flores airport if landing there. 7.00am we leave from flores, could be 7.30am, 8.00am depending what you selected on the booking. 3.5 to 4.00 hours in the site and back to flored or airport. Return to Flores airport or flores island is 3.30pm.

5.00Our guide is called Bayron and it was really a pleasure his teachings and appreciation, the information he shared was a true approach to Mayan culture, far from the false stories invented by outsider archaeologists for hundreds of years. It was very pleasing to be accompanied by a native with his stories full of wisdom, humility and respect for the Mayan culture, telling us the true meanings both archaeologically and cosmogically and spiritually of this immense civilization. A wealth and pride for the heart and memory of our ancestors, the Mayans of the world’s oldest and wisest populations. I also personally thank you as you answered all my doubts because I went earlier to the Museum of archaeology of Guatemala and there are no explanations of the original pieces that they preserve there. Wholeheartedly grateful. My name is Laura and I write also on behalf of my father Gustavo and my sister Andrea (Sosa family, from Argentina)

5.00Elmer was fantastic and I highly recommend this tour to any and all. Very easy for me and my companions from start to finish. Elmer was more than informed, and a true expert. He told facts and stories and even joked with us, very engaging, and helped us realize our dream vacation. He also spoke very good English - better than most Americans! The timing of the tour was also pristine and we had no unwanted surprises. Again, highly recommend and very glad to have done this tour!

5.00Elmer is a guide with over 10 years of experience in North Guatemala and is a wealth of information, historical, cultural, and environmental. My family and I spent the day with him in Tikal and would highly recommend him as you will get so much more out of Tikal with him as your guide. His enthusiasm even kept our teenagers engaged!

5.00We did a private tour of Tikal with Elmer in January 2025 and loved everything about the experience. Elmer and his colleague coordinated pick-up and drop-off at our hotel. They were on time, the van was clean and comfortable, and they anticipated every detail of the day so we didn't have to worry about it, including a stop at a great lunch spot and offering to take photos. Most importantly, Elmer is an expert in his field, and offered us an incredible overview of Mayan history and culture in Guatemala and the region and answered all of our questions. We really enjoyed spending the day with him and would recommend him for anyone looking to visit Tikal!

5.00Tikal is truly awe-inspiring, and Gelver brought it to life for us. He is highly educated and extremely knowledgeable about everything related to Tikal: Mayan history and culture, animals and natural environment, astronomy, language, etc. We had a private tour, and he allowed us to go at our own pace. We never felt rushed or pressured, and he was able to show us some out-of-the-way areas as well as the major sites. I actually ran into him the next day as he was leading another tour, and he took the time to answer some additional questions. Gelver definitely helped us to get the most from our visit.

5.00Elmer was a fantastic tour guide! We booked a private all day tour and Elmer and his driver arrived on time with a very clean and comfortable passenger van. He provided an overview of the day and then we set out for Tikal. I was carrying a large DSLR camera to photograph the ruins and Elmer was helpful as a juggled between lenses to capture panorama and telephoto pictures. He helped point out at least 20 different kinds of birds and animals. Our tour was a combination of the best parts of Tikal and some of the less traveled areas - which was great. We learned several things about the history of the area, the architecture and construction techniques. Elmer’s English is also very good. Upon return to the car, our driver was waiting with the AC already having cooled the van. We stopped for a wonderful local lunch on the return. Great experience all around!!!
