Poi Kalyan Mosque
The Kalyan Minaret, erected in 1127, is the sole remaining section of the Kara-khanid era mosque constructed by Mohammad Arslan Khan. It predates the Mongol invasions and stands impressively at a height of 45.6 meters. Despite its historical significance, the minaret was spared from destruction by Genghis Khan, who was so impressed by its grandeur that he chose not to order its demolition. Today, it remains a focal point of Bukhara, situated prominently in the Po-i-Kalyan square.
Ark of Bukhara
The Ark, an ancient fortress and royal enclave, represents Bukhara's oldest standing structure, having served as the residence of Bukhara's rulers for more than a thousand years. Its origins are intertwined with the city's early history, dating back to its very foundation. While the exact beginnings of the fortress are obscured by time, it undoubtedly played a central role in the development of the medieval town that grew around it.
Bolo Hauz Mosque
The Bolo Hauz Mosque is situated across from the Ark Fortress, forming a Kosh layout with the two structures facing each other. Its name translates to "above the pool," a reference to the octagonal hauz, or man-made pond, situated directly in front of it. Construction of the mosque began in 1712, during the early years of Abu'l-Faiz Khan's reign (1711-1747), making it one of Bukhara's final and most magnificent architectural achievements before the modern era.
Maghak-i 'Attari Mosque
The oldest mosque in Central Asia, this remarkable structure has a storied past, having originally served as a temple for both Buddhists and Zoroastrians. Its architectural design, characterized by stunning brickwork, is a testament to the craftsmanship of its builders.
Trading Domes
A vibrant old bazaar, exuding an enchanting oriental ambiance, is interspersed with charming artisans' workshops.
Lyab-i-Hauz
Dating back to the 16th and 17th centuries, the Lyab-i Hauz Ensemble remains one of Bukhara's prominent squares. It is widely regarded as one of the city's most popular tourist destinations, offering a serene and historic ambiance that invites visitors to pause and relax. Located in the southeastern shakhristan near the primary Bukhara trade street, Lyab-i Hauz is celebrated for its grandeur, tranquility, and rich history.

The Gur Emir Mausoleum stands as a testament to Tamerlane's formidable legacy. This beautifully reconstructed mausoleum, built between 1404 and 1405 and renovated in the 15th and 17th centuries, houses Tamerlane's tomb. Visitors can reflect on his life while marveling at the largest piece of jade, known as greenstone, in the world.
Registan
Registan became the city square after life in Afrosiab ceased. Over time, Registan underwent several reconstructions. Today, it is enclosed by three magnificent medreses: Ulugbek, Sherdor, and Tillokori.
Bibi Khanym Mosque
The Bibi-Khanym Mosque, named after Temur's wife, was constructed between 1399 and 1404 and is renowned as one of Central Asia's most prominent architectural marvels. Commissioned by Timur after his campaign in Delhi, the mosque was intended to feature the tallest minaret of its time.
Siab Bazaar
The Siab Bazaar in Samarkand remains as impressive today as it was many years ago. The bazaar's array of produce and handicrafts serves as a testament to Uzbekistan's natural wealth and the talents and diligence of its people.
Ulugh Beg Observatory
Ulugbek's Observatory, belonging to Timur's grandson, is a remarkable site, although only its foundations remain today. Ulugbek was not only an astronomer but also a scientist and architect. His groundbreaking work significantly advanced scientific and astronomical knowledge. The observatory's most notable artifact that remains is a part of a massive sextant, a key astronomical instrument, with its lowest part situated in a deep 11-kilometer trench.
