What To Expect

I am located 30 minutes from Belfast in a thatched cottage on the shores of beautiful Strangford Lough. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The traditional Irish bread making experience takes place in my farmhouse kitchen. My home can be accessed by public transport or you can travel by car. Start time is usually 11am and we would normally finish around 1.30pm. You will arrive to my homemade Soda Fruit Bannock as it comes out of the oven. This will be served with tea and coffee. Then it's times to roll up your sleeves and get floury! We won't weigh or measure anything - these Northern Irish Breads will be made in the traditional way! All breads will be made on your Griddle and will be cooked within 10 - 15 minutes! You'll make Soda bread, Wheaten bread and Potato bread. You will also enjoy a demo of my Soda Focaccia bread. You'll have worked up an appetite and Tracey will have set the tables with her fine bone China. You'll enjoy freshly made warm breads along with some of Tracey's homemade treats. You'll take away a big bag full of your homemade breads and you'll receive a copy of the recipes for everything that you have tasted and made in the session.

  • Fun experience at an Irish farm

It was so much fun having tea and bread with 32 travelers at Tracey’s. She demonstrated how to make soda bread and anyone who wanted to make it could do so. She was very warm and welcoming, and encouraged us to go in her backyard to see their farm animals.

What a delight this bread making experience was with Tracey and her husband, Joe. They opened up their home to our group that was a restored barn and stables. We sampled Irish teas and homemade jams, tasted delicious soda bread and had the opportunity to also make the bread. Visited with the animals out back also! Great way to spend the afternoon!

Although it was a cool and cloudy day, Tracey opened her warm heart and home to us and taught us to make delicious soda bread. Her quiche, jams, and breads were DELICIOUS! This off the beaten path adventure was relaxing and fun. Homegrown, nutritious fun for all. We love adventure that are outside the normal tourist destinations and this checked that box completely. Good fun for all ages. Our entire adventure, making the bread and having lunch took a couple of hours but the time flew by

I took a group of 10 to Tracey's for the traditional bread experience - which everyone loved! Tracey is a terrific teacher and made everyone feel welcome. At my request, Tracey also provided a light soup lunch - made with fresh vegetables from her garden! - to enjoy with our farls. It was the perfect beginning to a week-long trip through the North.

I had an amazing experience at Tracey’s Farmhouse. She was so welcoming and inviting. The bread-making was much easier than I originally thought, and I will definitely make the soda bread again when I get home.

Making Soda Bread What a brilliant way to spend an hour or so in the company of the delightful Tracey in her kitchen on the shores of Strangford Lough making homemade buttermilk soda bread. Aprons on, bowls at the ready, ingredients gathered, and griddles warming, we learned how to make and bake delicious soda bread, and it’s pretty much idiot proof, as there’s no need to weigh or measure anything. It’s all done by hand using traditional methods. Then, all that’s left to do is to enjoy the bread with some of Tracey’s homemade treats around the kitchen table, including preserves, and tea or coffee. And there’s always time to rustle up some wheaten and potato breads too: all ready to eat within fifteen minutes of making them. Thanks, Tracey, for a fantastic afternoon’s baking. We’ll bet Paul Hollywood is quaking in his boots! Staying in the cottage On our recent visit to Tracey’s Farmhouse Kitchen on the shores of Strangford Lough, we had the pleasure of staying in Tracey's Farmhouse Cottage, an 18th Century converted stable block, which has been cleverly turned into a comfortable 4* self-catering cottage. Located in an area of outstanding natural beauty, and sleeping up to six guests, the accommodation oozes quirky, rustic charm, with its exposed beams, wood-burning stove and an open-plan kitchen & living area. And all conveniences have been carefully considered including secure parking, Wi-Fi, a modern wet room, a pretty courtyard patio area, and a separate washroom with washing machine and dryer. Other amenities include access to free bike hire, ideal for exploring the area with its beautiful bays, an outdoor sun terrace with dining and BBQ facilities, and there’s a range of experiences & activities available including Traditional Irish Bread Making, “Paddle & Pizza” on Strangford Lough, and “Canoe & Cake”! There’s also a delicious Irish Cottage Welcome Hamper on arrival, containing a selection of Tracey’s goodies! Close by are several multi award-winning restaurants, all within four miles of the cottage; we visited Daft Eddy’s, renowned for its local seafood. Located on Sketrick Island the views across the bay whilst dining were simply stunning.

Really fun visit. Beautiful location. Really well looked after by Tracy and her team. Good demonstrations and plenty of opportunity for hands on baking and you got to take everything home that you baked. Soda bread, wheat bread, focaccia and the best ever potato bread. Yum Fresh Victoria sponge and a cup of tea at the table with new friends to round it all off.
