Fantastic experience. I wanted to buy high quality knives while in Japan and know how to sharpen them (as well as general knives and scissors around the home. This course taught me all the techniques and the progression of the techniques to bring knives from various states of bluntness or damage to razor sharpness again. I learnt the pros and cons of, each metal type, which whetstones and grades of abrasiveness to use for each stage of sharpening/finishing/polishing. After the course i knew exactly which types of knives i wanted to own (and be able to maintain). I bought a set of ebony handled, carbon steel blades from Musashi (who run the course), and ordered ceramic (splash and go) whetstones (1000, 5000 grit) from Naniwa, as well as a bridge, basin and leather paddle from other stores. This learning experience was foundational.

It was a fantastic experience. We came in with a little sharpening experience and still learned a lot. On figuring out where the burr is, the angles to keep and how to use the weak hand. Fortunately there were only two of us so I could ask many questions to which I received complete answers. Highly recommended for everyone.
