  • Excellent tour!

Our guide, Ferenc, and driver, Svein, were terrific. They made sure we were comfortable and prepared for the cold. We initially had clouds, but they cleared and we had a wonderful show of northern lights. Ferenc did a wonderful job of explaining the northern lights and Svein was always cheerful when I asked to be let in the van to warm up a bit (which was often). They took us to a place that had no one else there, so it felt a bit more private and special. Excellent tour!

We had a magnificent tour with Ferenc and Kjell Oddvar, who drove us safely through the snow to a spot with clear skies. Ferenc went above and beyond to make this tour a special experience, and he succeeded! We also got some beautiful photos of and with the Aurora, he is indeed a very skilled photographer and a knowledgeable yet humble guide.

Our Northern Lights tour with Ferenc was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish. Ferenc was professional, calm, and clearly very experienced. You could tell he really understands the weather, the terrain, and how to read the conditions to maximize the chances of seeing the aurora. Thanks to his decisions, we ended up in the perfect spot with clear skies and an incredible show. Throughout the night, he kept the group informed about what was happening, what we were waiting for, and why we were moving locations, which made us feel confident and relaxed even during the long chase. He was also very attentive to everyone in the group, making sure we were warm, comfortable, and in good spirits. His friendly attitude and quiet enthusiasm made the whole experience feel special and well organized. This was not just a tour, it felt like being guided by someone who truly loves what he does and wants everyone to have the best possible experience. Highly recommended if you want a Northern Lights tour led by someone knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely dedicated. Thank you, Ferenc!

  • Northern lights guide by pro photographer

This was definitely one of the best and most enjoyable activities we did in Tromsø. We spent the evening with our guide and a small group on a “clear-sky hunt” 😉 — and the patience was absolutely worth it. We were rewarded with a beautiful aurora show. Along the way, we learned about the phenomenon, got great tips on how to take photos, and enjoyed hot drinks and a warm dinner by the fireplace. Thank you so much to our guide and our driver for such a wonderful experience!

Absolutely brilliant. Ferenz knew all the best places to go and we had a really good show from the Aurora

This was my second tour for the Aurora and it was the best I could ever had. They arranged us in small groups such that smaller vehicle could go into small parking. Our guide, who was an absolute geek on photography offered us wonderful shots. The tromso-made reindeer stew was amazing, plus the campgfire. We are very lucky to have once in a lifetime Aurora show with KP index of up to 8.4 on-site. We could see red and green aurora with naked eyes dancing through the starry night. It was beyond words to describe the beauty. This was on 19/1/26 on record. I just knew this level of geomagnetic storm was a rare circumstances. Well, taking the luck out of the equation, the team was very knowledgeable and courteous. Warm suits were provided to ensure we were warm. I would rate it equally even if we didn’t encounter such massive phenomenon.

  • Nice guide, but a 16 person tour is not for us!

We were in Tromso for a week and had booked three evening Northern Lights Tours, this was our third tour. This was our only 16 person tour, we picked the company because of their reputation and reviews. There is a massive difference between and 8 person trip and a 16 person trip. With 8 people the bus is much more agile as is the group, you can get to more spots for hunting and with only 8 people it is generally much quieter and delivers a more emotive experience. Our group had two families on it and they in turn had teenage kids, so things like lights on phones being turned on and off, a dad with a flash camera that he needed considerable help in using and general noise! Snowballs being thrown etc. The tour started on time and was very professional, we met at the hotel and then a short walk to their office nearby where we were pre-kitted out with arctic suits and boots, plus a last-minute toilet break. (If we had known this before we could have met there and saved time). This took a while. We then went to the van, very nice indeed and comfortable, the main difference is there is a dedicated driver and a separate guide (the 8 people ones the driver and guide were one in the same on our trips). The driver was there to drive. The guide was very good and started chatting and telling us all about lights as soon as we left, lots on interesting information. The forecast was not good and the be fair this was the least successful of all the three NL Hunts. The main issue I have with this trip was that we made a stop at a petrol station on route, now while I understand this (well actually I don’t) I was of the opinion I would be crossing my legs if needed and hubby could answer a call of nature in the woods, we wasted a good 30 minutes plus. The expectation on our other tours was no stopping. The first petrol station had a massive, long queue for the toilets, so we moved to another station and that also had a long queue with one toilet out of action. People also got snacks. This was just an unnecessary stop, and given there were large tour buses with 60+ people at a time you can see the issues. We were there to get the best chance of seeing NL, especially as we were chasing clear skies, I feel this delay impacted the tour as a whole. We got to our destination a small layby just off a road, it was far as we could go in the van. Down the side road and in the distance was a house so there was an orange glow in both directions. The lights were just not playing ball. There were vehicles going past quite frequently. Each time our driver turning on his flashing torch. The main vehicles lights on our van were on for some time too. This company also use the freeze-dried meals mixed with water and I was pleased to say they made them up correctly and there was a choice of meal types and also sizes, as I said they are really large so having the choice of a smaller meal is a good idea. There was no real seating around the fire, more like a camping mat. I was reluctant to sit on this with the cold from the floor, I think small camp chairs may work better but appreciate space may be an issue. We had hot drinks, and our guide certainly did his best. We did move from this spot to another spot which was quieter and darker, but by this time we were pretty cold, the teenage kids seemed bored, and we were all just running out of steam. We had a long drive back. The company is clearly well run, and professional. But a 16 person tour is not for us. As we did not leave until gone 6pm I wonder if some of the “good” spots had already gone? Add in the petrol station delay too… we had more time in the van and on the road than out of it. If this had been our only tour I would have been disappointed. As I said in other posts, we used this company for another tour which was brilliant. I would suggest thinking about what it is you want from a trip before booking.

  • Great all around experience and well organised

This was a well organised trip and we were extremely lucky on our particular night. I'm very thankful that I went on a tour that emphasised finding the best location for the lights as well as providing snow suits, boots, hot drinks and hot food. We went down to a snowy fjord and got a great night because it was very clear and the lights were visible for multiple hours. Klara our guide took plenty of photos of us and was extremely friendly and accommodating. Not only that, but while we were on the way back, Klara asked the driver to pull in at another location and we got another incredible view of the lights where we saw green, pink and the lights were dancing in the sky. This made it an even better experience and it was very well spotted by Klara. It was also great to sit around a fire on the fjord and chat to our guide about life in Norway.

The guide Ferenc and the driver were super friendly, talked a good amount about the itinerary and about the auroras (the right amount, happy about that haha). And we were so lucky to see them, had dinner outside under the lights. It was beautiful. The group was small, less than 10. So very comfortable. They provide winter suits, boots and dinner and snacks. They can also help you set up your tripod and cameras. I would highly recommend this tour :)

Great tour, great guide. Bring your patience. It took some time for the Aurora to appear after we’d settled in, but it was worth the wait. Lots of time outside so dress warmly. You’ll put the Arctic suit over all your clothes, including your jacket so better not to wear one that’s past your waist.
