It is not easy to find a guided tour of the Lenggong Valley. The tour organised by Ipoh Secrets Tours with guides John (for the day) and Faiz (for the caves) was just what we needed. From Ipoh we travelled comfortably by car to the Lenggong Valley where we visited several caves where archaeological excavations have been carried out (including Gua Teluk Kelawar, Gua Ngaum and Gua Asar). As announced, we walked from one cave to the next; good shoes were essential, as the path was in the forest and the ground can be slippery in the caves. On the way back, we visited the Lenggong Archaeological Museum before enjoying a delicious laksa telur sarang in a typical restaurant. The tour also included a very interesting stopover in the royal city of Kuala Kangsar, where we visited the royal mosque and the magnificent "temporary" palace (Muzium Diraja Kuala Kangsar). Our guides were both very knowledgeable and we thank them once again for this wonderful day of discovery.

Although it was a great experience to see these archeological digs and learn about the facts of early civilisation, we would have liked to have more information on what was required. Asking for a level of fitness does not include the requirement to perform abseiling kinds of activities and even more types of climbing requirements to get to some of the sites Both of us are over 70, I am 77 and we are fairly fit, however we declined to do the last 2 sites which required almost extreme levels of fitness , ie pulling oneself up by a rope and the dropping over the other side. This would be suitable for mountain climbers and more clearly explained. As it is one of the sites required us to squeeze through a very narrow opening and then crawl on all fours.

To understand how the ancient people lived is fascinating. Our group may even set a record as the oldest folk (73 year old) who joueneyed the caves.

9 March 2023 6.20am in the morning, John picked us at Kinta Riverside Hotel. We bit the morning traffic and arrived Lenggong Valley at around 7.30am for a coffee shop breakfast. We were then proceed to our UNESCO Archaeological Heritage tour. The heritage tour guide could not speak much other languages except Malay. John assisted in translation and provided additional insight and helped our senior folks to complete the adventure. We were told tha our 73 year old participant was the oldest that the tour had ever received! John took us to Kuala Kangsar for lunch and visited the royal town of Perak before heading back to hotel. We thanked John for his friendliness, patience and professionalism.
