• Good way to see the Island with a local

  The pickup was chaotic. I wasn’t sure if this was the right tour. A couple of vehicles drove past my accommodation shouting ”island tour” without confirming my name. I was the first to be picked up, but the initial driver and companion kept answering frantic phone calls or chatting to each other while driving without letting me know what was going on. This was a bit disconcerting as I was alone with them. The tour was enjoyable but slightly dampened by the rain. This meant we missed some stops and whizzed through the island capital without stopping. The guide was very good and friendly. However, I’d book a private or smaller group next time. My group was about 12 people, all couples except for me. One older couple in particular talked non-stop all day in the close quarters of the mini van. They chatted incessantly without a break and seemed completely unaware of group etiquette. By mid-morning it got completely exhausting and even the guide noticed I wasn't particularly engaged after that.

  We were recommended Edgar, from Union tours, who went above and beyond to make our trip amazing. He gave great information on what tours there were, and prices along with details of private tours. The staff that picked us up from the hotel and accompanied us, on the trip were professional and polite. As were the guide at the Lemon sharks. I would highly recommend this company.

  We booked our trip with Edgar from Union Tours, who was super friendly and helpful right from the start. He gave us loads of great information about the island and went above and beyond with his recommendations. Such a nice guy! Our guide and photographer, Alfonso, was fantastic. We did a half-day tour to the Blue Eye, the Mirage, the salt baths, and we saw the lemon sharks, what an unforgettable experience! Our driver was really cheerful and helpful, drove safely, and the 4x4 was clean, comfy, and even had air conditioning, which was perfect on a hot day. We had the best time and would 100% recommend Edgar and Union Tours if you’re visiting the island. Thanks again to the whole team for making our day so special!

  Edagr has looked after us from before we flew over to the day of flying home. His professional, personal and friendly approach has been perfect! Highly recommend booking with Union tours and Edagr for the island tour. He also arranged all other excursions for us on the island. Had the best day in our private 4x4 around the island and our guide Marcio was fantastic!! Best day!!! Thank you Edagr! Will stay in touch and see you again.   Our tour guide Daniel was very helpful, knowledgeable and a great laugh all day. Just remember to take cash with you as not all attractions take card. Only negative was the back of the truck was sooooo windy, a heads up to bring a hoodie would have been helpful. Excellent value for money though, Union tours was recommended to me and I would also recommend them without any hesitation.

  Fantastic experience with Union Tour, very professional and friendly! Right from the initial contact with Edgar Pires (super reliable and knowledgeable) to the fabulous guide we had on the all day island tour (Helder). The prices of their tours are really reasonable and competitive when you see how much is packed in. The process is seamless and efficient, we were very impressed. The all day island tour is fun, adventurous and takes in all the main attractions including the lemon sharks, blue eye, swimming in the salt lake etc. Our guide also took candid photos of our day at the various places which made a lovely souvenir and great idea for social media.   The charming and affable Edgir Pires grew up in Rhode island so speaks perfect English albeit with a Boston accent. He is the coordinator for Union and they get HUGE groups (99% from the DREADFUL all inclusive monstrosities at far West end of Santa Maria) . We were in our own group of 8, the MAX size I can tolerate as we are fully indepdent travellers (on Boa Vista we had a group size of 2, my preferred size)! So our group was subcontracted out to Morabeza Tours. Our guide/driver was excellent, spoke fluent English and intrigued us very much about his home island of Santa Antao, the coolest and grrenest of the 10 islands in this country. The only two bummers were the HUGE CROWDS at each site, like Europe, and the Red flag that prevented us from swimming at Buracona (The Blue Eye). Murdeira and Buracona were the highlights for me as I love spectacularly seascapes. My better half was most impressed with the salt pond float at Pedra de Lume (Ive swum in the Dead Sea and have a slight cut in my foot which would have really hurt had I entered the brine).
