Unlike crowded surf schools, our lessons take place in a private section of Playa Chaman, offering the perfect conditions for learning. The 2 to 3-hour session ensures plenty of time to practice, improve, and gain confidence in the water.
We focus on personalized coaching, making sure each guest gets the attention they need. Halfway through, we take a refreshing break with tropical fruits and hydrating drinks before heading back into the waves.

What To Expect
We’ll meet at Playa Chaman, inside Marino Ballena National Park, where we’ll pick the perfect surfboard and rash guard for you. This beach is one of the best, if not the best, places to learn to surf in Costa Rica, offering ideal waves for beginners and those eager to improve. Before heading into the water, we’ll go over the current ocean conditions, safety guidelines, surf etiquette, and the correct paddling and standing techniques. You’ll have time to practice on the sand until you feel confident and ready. Once in the water, you’ll receive hands-on coaching to help you catch waves with ease. The lesson lasts 2 to 3 hours, ensuring plenty of time to learn, practice, and improve. You’ll stand up on the board—guaranteed. Halfway through, we’ll take a break to hydrate and enjoy fresh tropical fruits before heading back into the waves for more fun. The session takes place in a quiet and scenic part of the park, away from crowded surf spots, making it a relaxed and immersive experience. No prior experience is needed—just bring your swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen, and get ready for an unforgettable surf adventure in one of Costa Rica’s most stunning locations.

5.00We had a great experience with Pacific Coast and our instructor Stewart was amazing! He taught them quick and was so patient and supportive for our youngest. He even taught her a trick at the end. Our kids were 11, 14, & 17, and they were all up surfing within the first 30 minutes.

5.00We had an incredible experience with Pacific Coast Surfing School. If you are looking for instructors who prioritize actual water time over standing on the sand, this is the place. We found the instruction to be highly professional with a "safety first" approach that worked perfectly for both a total beginner and an advanced beginner. A special shout-out to Miguel, who was exceptionally communicative. Knowing he is a certified lifeguard and paramedic gave us a huge sense of security in the water. It was particularly striking to see other surf groups at Marino Ballena National Park while we were there—many had high student-to-instructor ratios and instructors who seemed to be "phoning it in" or lacked that level of professional expertise. The progress was remarkable—my husband made as much headway in just three sessions here as I did in a previous 10-session surf camp! Along with Albert, they provided everything we needed: sunscreen, rash guards, fresh fruit, and water. Heads-up for future travelers: While the website mentions park fees are included, they currently are not, so be prepared to pay the entrance fee separately. On the plus side, the park has convenient bathrooms and changing areas available for use. We will definitely be joining Miguel again when we return! The park accepts cards, but lesson payment is in cash only.

5.00We got there early, and they showed is where to park for free, they brought us out chairs and chatted until the lesson time. Instruction was one on one and excellent..so encouraging and patient . They provided fresh fruit and pipa dueing the break and we surfed until the last minute. Great boards, they provided rash guards too. Excellent service all around pura vida

5.00We had such a brilliant couple of hours learning to surf with Miguel & Albert. The whole package was just what we wanted, as a family of 4, celebrating our boys’ 14th birthdays. It was fun, thorough and felt really safe. And they had us up and surfing on the water in less than 20-minutes! Miguel provided long-sleeved rashies, an awning on the beach for shade, sunblock for our faces, great instruction on the beach and excellent supervision in the water. Life guards were also based where we surfed. We had fabulous fresh fruit, expertly prepared by Miguel, and cold water during the much needed break. The beach was amazing too, extremely quiet, vast expanse of sand that goes round to the whale’s tail. And the water was blissfully warm. A couple of things to be aware of, reception is not great at the entrance to the park, and there is no base or office to sit and wait in, so don’t get there too early. The guys do have one car space for guests, which means you don’t need to pay at the formal car park. But that also relies on you meeting with Miguel as you arrive. We ended up paying for parking, but no major problem, only a few thousand colones (cash only). Highly recommend Miguel & Pacific Coast Surf.

5.00The surfing was a cool experience. The on sand lesson helped with getting us started with the basics! Miguel explained it clearly and ensured we are good and comfortable before getting in the water. Miguel also helped us with other info we needed . The instructors were there in the water with us pretty well the entire time we needed! Bucket list item checked! We all had great time and the kids had fun.

5.00Surfing was a whole different experience! The guide was super knowledgeable in helping us and explaining! Me and my boyfriend went and we’ve snowboarded and skated before so it was kind of like that. It was so cool to surf the pacific. When you get out there he doesn’t take you too deep it was great because I’m scared of water haha. But the view was breath taking I wish we booked twice while we were here! Muchas gracias mi amigos! ❤️
