This tour was booked for us and it sounded great. Maybe my expectations were too high. The meeting point had multiple tours located there. When we found the correct registration and got on the bus we were told to 'sit anywhere' yet the guide spoke to certain groups. When we got to Versailles the guide seemed disorganized and confused but we did get to the ticket line and got our tickets into the palace and gardens, and told us our bus would be in the same spot as where we were left off. We were guided through the palace by our same guide - who didn't speak very good English. He talked more (in English) to the Canadians in the group about French culture there etc. than what we were looking at. It felt rushed through the entire palace. Then at the end he said, now go see the gardens and meet us back at the bus. We found our way out to the gardens, walked around to see a bunch of tall hedges and statues and were done. No one told us, we found out after the fact, that we could have rented a cart, or taken a train through the gardens. Who knew? We left the gardens/palace after 90 minutes and decided to wait in the bus to stay out of the sun. But there was no bus! We were waiting on the cement pillars for the bus to arrive when another guide approached us from Paris City and offered us a ride back into town. We ensured that he would notify our own guide so they weren't waiting for us when they left and we took the early ride back. It was a disappointing tour, but part of our disappointment was our expectations of colorful gardens in April. There were no flowers or color other than green.

This was a very disorganised tour with little concern shown to those of us paying customers. Having said that I would still recommend you go somehow as it's a must see destination of epic proportions. We have gone independently by train years ago and it wasn't that hard, just follow the crowd from the station and be sure to book your beat the crowd tickets directly from the website for the Palace. Francois (?) our guide was intense and although he knew his historical facts wasn't a great listener so missed the point entirely when his audience told him they couldn't hear as he wasn't speaking into the microphone. He didn't recover from this well, his feelings appeared to be deeply hurt so he threw himself into the task of telling us things much of which unless you stood very close we either couldn't understand or hear. On the return journey we were left milling around the car park (at a later time than our tickets suggested we would be back by) unsure if we had missed the directions. All our group were back well in advance collecting in smaller groups waiting for instruction which only came late when a woman in the uniform was approached. The return bus arrived a few minutes later than we were told, then the unaccompanied driver dropped us in an entirely different spot, a couple of blocks away from where we originally started out , it must have saved him time but left a lot of tourists disorientated in a city they don't know well - lots of room for improvement here!

The booking was easy, the pick up point was clear, allocation of groups was seamless, however the tour guide was very hard to understand, she spoke English but the accent was so broad that one could only understand about every 4th word, making it very difficult to guage the history.

The transport was excellent. The truck very comfortable and punctual. The very bad guided tour. The listening device never worked. They had no more gadgets to change it. I had no audio at all.

While the palace is absolutely beautiful and tour was very informative there are so many people that it takes away from the experience.

Versailles is an excellent place to go and learn about French history. I was concerned that too many people were allowed in some of the rooms.

Versailles is a magnificent place. The Palace is ornate, but not gawdiish. The gardens are simply superb. Allow plenty of time to explore the gardens, Petit Trianon, and Le Grand Trianon. The tour was brilliantly organised. Pre- book entry and entry time etc in advance if you can - the queues can be quite long, especially in Spring or Summer.
