This Papingo - Vikos Gorge One Day tour offers us the ultimate view of the world’s deepest canyon, Vikos canyon. In our path, we’ll meet one of the clearest and coldest rivers of Europe, Voidomatis and well as some spots that provide us with a sublime view of the canyon. The silvery river’s waters, though cold, are surprisingly refreshing for swimming and ideal for rafting in the late spring and summer months.

We begin our tour from Ioannina and we follow the path “up to the road” that leads to the place behind the mountain (Zagori means the place behind the mountain).

The ﬁrst stop will be at Vikos village, one of the most beautiful places that offers a breathtaking view of Vikos Gorge. At an altitude of 770 metres, this village is included in the borders of the Vikos-Aoos Natural Reserve. The trekking paths give visitors the chance to enjoy the beauty of the region.

Vangeli was our tour guide and he was exceptional sharing a lot of history of the area. He knew a lot because he was from Sagori and his history background. The mountains are majestic, the Gorge did not disappoint. We enjoyed breaking bread with him in Monodendri. He took us to the petrified forest.
Zagori Gorge tour is gorgeous.

Our driver, Vangelis, took us to villages that were unique in their own ways. We enjoyed good coffee and great food at Koukouknari Papigo Cafe and travelled to many fantastic sights. Vikos Gorge was amazing, sensational!! Our adventures were too many for this post, so if the chance arises, take it! Thanks Vasili for a wonderful day.

Our tour of the Zagori area was absolutely stunning! I scheduled the tour with my friend while we’re on Holiday Break in Ioannina! We loved the nature experience compared to our time in Athens, Greece, where we studied abroad for 4 months. Our tour guide Ioannis was the absolute best! He gave so much insightful information and facts about the Zagori area! My favorite part was swimming in the coldest river in Europe, the Voidomatis River! I hope to return someday!!!! Thank you, Ioannis!!!!!!

Ioannis was an absolutely amazing tour guide and embodied the hospitality that the Greeks are known for. He communicated before the excursions (we went to Meteora as well) and provided clear instructions on where to meet. He was extremely knowledgeable about the region and did his due diligence to ensure the conditions were safe as we were in the mountains and it was icy. He took care to provide us with the history, geology and culture of the region of Ioannina. Ioannis was the perfect tour guide for anyone looking to truly immerse themselves in this beautiful region of Greece. The Vikos Gorge and Zagora region is a must see and Ioannis will make sure the tour covers everything you need to explore!

We saw a lot of places we would not have been able to find ourselves and would have had to hire a car. The weather was gorgeous and our guide was very informative except when I asked about the botany of the area. His strong point was history.

My husband and I had a wonderful time. Each view was absolutely breath taking, and our guide made the whole trip special. Ioannis was very warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and so much fun to be around! If we ever get a chance to go back to Greece, we’d love to do this tour again with Epirus Traveller and Ioannis!
