I really enjoyed Dofri Hermannsson’s guiding style. I’ve seen many guides through my experience in tourism, and it’s clear that Dofri truly loves what he does. He puts his heart into his work, genuinely enjoys being around people and shares stories about his land with great enthusiasm – I highly recommend him!

This was the first of three tours I did with Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts. I am going to write separate reviews for both of those tours as well. I need to mention that due to the eruption of Fagradalsfjall, much of what we would normally see on this tour was not accessible. So Dofri had to improvise, and he was a master at presenting the perfect first day in Iceland. He picked us up at the airport and brought us to a local coffee shop for one of the best cups of coffee I've had in a while. It was a local place, not a touristy spot. I knew right then I picked the right guide, one who would provide a real feel for Iceland. We first visited Kleifarvatn Lake and then Krýsuvík/Seltún. Dofri gave us a wonderful explanation of the geology behind what was happening in the area and pushed mom in her wheelchair and kept her company at Krýsuvík so I could explore a little more. He gave us a break in his tour to drop us off at Sky Lagoon where mom and I were able to get over our jet lag a little before continuing on. When Dofri picked us up, much to our delight, and per our request, he brought his wonderful dogs Hneta and Kvika! They are such well-behaved dogs and smart too (one is a retired search and rescue dog)! Dofri talked about his horses too and invited us to see them, which we did: real Icelandic horses. We got to feed them a little snack while we were there. I bet that's a treat you don't get on most tours. My mom said she loved the scenery and the lagoon, but the horses were her highlight of the day. I don't know that I can pick a highlight; I loved it all so much. After we met the horses, Dofri gave us a tour of Reykjavik and gave us some tips to enjoy the city. But this was our first day in Iceland, we were jet-lagged, and tired. So he brought us to our hotel and we agreed to meet the next day for our Golden Circle tour. I highly recommend this company and Dofri in particular to everyone who wants to book a private tour in Iceland. I booked a private guide because I brought my elderly mom with me on a short trip to Iceland and I knew private tours would be best considering our limited time and her mobility issues. Dofri made sure our Iceland experience was priceless. Please see my other reviews (Golden Circle and South Coast) for more information about Reykjavik Erupts. I fully plan to go back to Iceland in the future, and I will be sure to book Reykjavik Erupts again when I do.

Dofri was a fantastic local guide, very responsive and flexible as we adjusted our plans around the weather and the whims of lava flows. We had a great day hiking in the Reykjanes peninsula and driving to some of the geothermal active areas. The perfect way to kick off our Iceland adventure.

We spent a magical day with Gylfi, touring the active volcano and the surrounding area. How fortunate we were to see the earth perform in this spectacular fashion. How fortunate we were to have had such an excellent tour guide.

This was one of the most fun private tours we did because of how engaging and knowledgeable our guide Dofri was. He kept us entertained with trivia, hilarious anecdotes and detailed information about the beautiful sights we saw. The different landscapes we drove and walked through were surreal, and the food we had in a small fishing village was delicious. Dofri went out of his way to make this a personalised and memorable experience for us and we are so thankful for that! Can't wait to do another tour the next time we're in Iceland.

What an AMAZING experience! Dofri is an excellent guide with so much knowledge, and a genuine interest in geology. If you have any interest in volcanoes, this is THE tour for you. Small groups make a better experience, hands down!

I had some scheduling issues that I worked out with Dofri before I arrived and the day of my tour we both had even more schedule issues. But we worked out what worked for both of us. He met me exactly on time and got me to my airport drop off exactly when he said he would. The tour itself was great. I am a geologist and had only a half day so this worked great. I was able to see a lot in a short time. I highly recommend this tour if you don’t have a lot of time. Dofri is an excellent guide and with a small group it’s much easier to accommodate your own interests.

We had scheduled several quite long and demanding tours and were looking for a way to relax but still see more of Iceland in a less hectic manner. This was exactly what we were looking for. The tour started at the Volcano house that gave a lot of background on the volcanic history of Iceland. From there were were picked up by Finn in a Land Rover. While there were only two in our tour, the maximum would be maybe 5 so it is a very individualized tour whose pace is your pace. The drive took us to the volcanic area in the Reykjavic Peninsula. This is a protected and almost pristine area. We drank water directly from a glacier fed lake, visited hot springs and enjoyed panoramic vistas. The one on one with the tour guide provided a great opportunity to ask all the questions that had been in my mind, not only about volcanos and hot springs but Iceland itself. This was well done and worth it.

This trip was amazing! Even though it rained during the whole tour, we got an amazing experience. It was not far to hike and the tour-guide was very good, funny and had a lot of knowledge.

Thanks to Finn for an excellent half-day lava fields tour! My son & I wanted a tour, whilst the girls went horse riding, & this was exactly what we needed. As it happened we were the only ones who booked so Finn gave us our own private tour anyhow! The short film set the scene perfectly & then Finn picked us up & drove us out onto the peninsula; it’s a different world there & not something you’d find easily on your own. The ride in the Land Rover Disco 4 was perfect & we did experience a bit of off-road too. One stop at a secret location, a flask of chocolate & another special stop on the way home all interspersed with explanations & anecdotes made for a great experience. Best of luck with the tours, you’ve set the standard high & deserve the best.
