Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela

Take morning flight from Addis to Lalibela. Get picked up at the airport and drive 30 minutes from the airport to the town through the countryside landscape: upon arrival, you will check in the hotel for lunch before we start exploring the first group of the mysteriously hewn Lalibela churches. We will visit the first group of the churches We will go deep into the 12th century miracle where only the faithfulness seems to be believing. In the afternoon tour the southern group of churches Overnight: Lal Hotel and Spa/ Roha hotel/Mountain view Hotel/ /Sora lodge/ Tukul village Hotel Day 3:DECEMBER 3rd Drive most of the way (35-40 minutes) and walk the last 20 minutes or hike the whole way to Asheton Maryam cave church. Optional to hike or drive from the town. Return to Lalibela for lunch. Then drive 42km to the Monastery of Yemrehanna Kristos, a unique wood and granite church built in a cavern before the time of King Lalibela; the only floating church in the area

Asheton Maryam Monastery

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive most of the way (35-40 minutes) and walk the last 20 minutes to Asheton Maryam cave church. Tour the church OR trek // ride Mule all the way to the mountain. Return to Lalibela for lunch. At Been Ababa Restaurant. Then drive 42km to the Monastery of Yemrehanna Kristos, a unique wood and granite church built in a cavern before the time of King Lalibela.

Monastery of Na’akuto La’ab

After breakfast, we will drive to the airport, en-route we will stop at the Nakutola'ab monastery which is situated under huge cave. This beautiful semi monolithic church shows the last stages of Zagwe dynasty. Continue driving to the airport for departure to Addis Ababa

We did the 3 days 2 nights Lalibela tour flying from Addis Ababa. When we arrived in Lalibela airport our guide Ermias was there, with the driver, waiting for us, and immediately took us to the hotel for a quick lunch before starting exploring the city of Lalibela. The churches carved in rock are absolutely mesmerizing and deservedly so considered a UNESCO Heritage Site. We also had planned to visit a church around 40km from Lalibela, but due the ongoing conflict in the region we were unable to visit, this was really the only downside of the trip. If you find yourself in Ethiopia, or planning to visit Ethiopia, you should definitely consider a visit to Lalibela, its unlike anything else in the world. Many thanks to our driver, and our guide Ermias. Highly recommend East Africa Tour.

Vacations are an excellent time to evaluate your goals. Life has as many goals as there are people, and I have my own. This summer we spent a few days in Berlin, with the sole purpose of letting time pass unhurriedly. Berlin in august is a city full of opportunities to have a great time. With its wide range of parks, lakes, restaurants, museums, festivals, and open-air events like blue neon lights sneaking past the stars, the city really comes into its own when summer descends into august. Beautiful summer days in Berlin, buzzing past midnight and river cruises under mysterious skies. Germany's capital is an open-air city, festive and full of life like an open heart. Berlin, a city full of opportunities to live experiences and forget about the clock.

My father arrange this tour because he has gone on the tour just weeks before. And I’m glad that he did! This tour was the highlight of my one month stay in Ethiopia. I was lucky to be able to join the Lalibela tour booking it just a few days before it departed. This was during Ethiopia Christmas which is the best time to visit. Bekey met me at the airport twice. He and the group had an earlier flight, but he waiting with me before me flight and then met me when I arrived at the airport. We had the opportunity to see many of the ceremonies that happen at this time of the year. The experience is like no other. Just absolutely incredible! Bekey even changed the groups return flights so we had more time on our last day to take in the wonders of Lalibela! I’m planning to bring a group back so that they can enjoy it just as much as it did. 10/10 recommended!
