Our walking history tours look at the lasting political and social implications of Bloody Sunday and other local incidents of the Troubles. It begins at the Guildhall in city center and drops into the Bogside area from Derry’s intact city walls. Learn from survivors and family members as you trace the footsteps of the Bloody Sunday march. Our tours also pass the world-famous Bogside Murals, offering in-depth histories of each. We stop by the iconic Free Derry Corner and our tour ends at the Bloody Sunday monument on Rossville Street just across the way from the Museum of Free Derry.

Guildhall
This hour long walking tour in Derry will also retrace parts of the original march and visit places where the dead and wounded fell. The Bogside History Tour will examine the political and social repercussions of Bloody Sunday. The tour will pass ‘The Museum of Free Derry’ and conclude at the Bloody Sunday monument within sight of Free Derry corner and beneath the city walls of Derry. The Bogside (Irish: Taobh an Bhogaigh) is a neighbourhood outside the city walls.. The large gable-wall murals by the Bogside Artists, Free Derry Corner and the Gasyard Féile (an annual music and arts festival held in a former gasyard) are popular tourist attractions. The area has been a focus point for many of the events of the Troubles; in 1969, a fierce three-day battle known as the Battle of the Bogside became a starting point of the Troubles.

Of all the tours we took this week, John Burke was the standout. He's passionate and has a deep knowledge of the city's history. His explanation of the events surrounding Bloody Sunday was exceptional. Highly recommended!

Peter was an excellent tour guide, very knowledgeable and extremely friendly. Would highly recommend a trip to beautiful Derry and the guided walk tour with Peter or Paul. Joe from Galway.

This tour was a highlight for me and our guide Paul did not disappoint. The tour started like a lot of tours in Ireland do with a lot of talking about the history of Ireland. Then we walked over to the Bogside district and Paul took us through the events of the day on Bloody Sunday, 30 January 1972. He showed us where certain things happened and where people died. Most of the tour guides we encountered in Northern Ireland made sure we knew they were impartial and not favouring the Catholic or Protestant view either way, but Paul did not make that clarification. His sister was shot on Bloody Sunday and survived. He was very matter of fact but there was no doubting where he stood.

Peter was a knowledgeable and friendly guide, making this particular walking tour a memorable one indeed. Despite the delicate subject matter, his subtle humour was able to cut through the sobering horror of the events being relayed. I would highly recommend this walking tour for anyone visiting Derry.

Was lucky enough to be the only person who booked the tour slot and got a private tour with John! John was an amazing guide who wants to give people the full picture of Bloody Sunday. I am someone who wants to know every little detail and John provided that. I had a wonderful time and learned so much. John definitely appealed to the inner history nerd in me.

A must do when in Derry. We had the absolute pleasure of having Jimmy Toye take us on this heart rendering tour of the Bogside talking about the troubles and Bloody Sunday. He made us laugh and also cry telling us from his first hand experience of many years as a teenager living during those terrible times. Was one of the best history lesson ever and a must if you visit Derry. Hopefully you’ll be lucky enough to get Jimmy.

Paul gave us a full understanding of the history of Bloody Sunday and we learnt so much from him on this great walking tour. Given his very personal connection, we really appreciated his time. Highly recommend!!
