Place du Grand 9 Avril 1947
The Grand Socco, short for Grand Socco Square, is a vibrant and historically significant public square located in the heart of Tangier, Morocco. "Socco" is derived from the Arabic word "Souk," meaning market, and the Grand Socco has long been a central hub of commerce and cultural exchange. The Grand Socco serves as a gateway between the old medina and the modern city. It is a bustling intersection where locals and visitors alike gather to experience the dynamic atmosphere. The square is characterized by its open space, a blend of traditional and colonial architecture, and the constant movement of people. The square is not only a commercial center but also a meeting point for different cultures and communities. Its significance goes beyond its physical space, as it holds historical importance, having witnessed various cultural and political events over the years. And here where the old king of Morocco Mohamed 5 had declared the independency of Morocco in 1947.
Tangier Casbah
The Tangier Casbah, steeped in history, stands as a testament to the city's rich and diverse past. With its origins dating back to medieval times, this ancient fortress has witnessed the ebb and flow of various civilizations. From Phoenician and Roman influences to Arab and Andalusian contributions, the Casbah's architecture is a mosaic of cultural legacies. Perched on the highest point of the city, the Casbah served as a strategic stronghold against invaders. Its towering walls and narrow, winding streets tell tales of battles fought and victories won. Over the centuries, it has been a melting pot of cultures, fostering a unique blend of traditions that is distinctly Tangier. As one explores the Casbah, they encounter architectural wonders like the Dar el-Makhzen palace, a manifestation of Moroccan craftsmanship and elegance. The Kasbah Mosque, with its ornate details, reflects the city's Islamic heritage.

Small hiccup at start in meeting guide but good communication. Very polite and well spoken gentleman, named Khalid. Great explanation of tour and route. History and background to Tangiers set scene nicely. Few hills and steps to negotiate but very manageable. Great little nuggets of information whilst walking through alleys and Medina. Cafe Baba for mint tea my favourite due to its history and famous visitors. A must do. American Litigation museum and Anglican church fabulous. 100% worth it. Thank you Khalid.

Absolutely wonderful! Mr. Mohsin was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and endeared us to the local culture. We saw so much in a few short hours, we never would’ve accomplished this on our own. Just getting through the Medina was quite the experience. We were coming off a cruise ship and did not arrive as planned, but no worries. They were incredibly helpful and accommodating to our time schedule. Highly recommend!

Meriem was the perfect tour guide for my 4 hour city/old town tour of Tangier. She customized a well orchestrated array of places to visit with excellent commentary spoken in very good English for me to fully understand. She knew just all the right places and nooks to visit for great views and tasty foods. It was probably the best tour I’ve had so far while in Morocco!

You should definitely have a qualified and certified tour guide for the Tangier experience. That being said, we hit the proverbial jackpot with Ahmed. He absolutely made our day very special and memorable. His encyclopedic knowledge of Tangier’s history, both ancient and current was incredible, in addition to being an incredibly charming and fun guy to spend the day with. Unfortunately the Kasbah was closed because of the Eid-al-Adha holiday, but there was plenty to see and do. And we’ll definitely be back.

This private tour was AMAZING! Bilal was very professional and very knowledgeable, and made us feel very welcome in Tangier. We purchased a private tour, and we indeed got a private tour (no late-minute additions). Thank you Anas and Bilal for your excellent services!

This might have been my favorite excursion ever. I believe that the other 6 people in my group would agree. Anas took us to Kasbah and Medina in Tangier. He was so informative and entertaining. He made sure all of us were happy with the pace. We saw many areas that I don't think are standard on a tour. We stopped for hot mint tea, an amazing lunch, a discussion about spices and natural remedies and visited a beautiful textile shop. We intend to revisit Morocco and spend more time based upon Anas' introduction to his country.

Jasmine was warm and very knowledgeable about Tangier. She is the 5th generation in her family to live here. Her English was perfect and she shared many facts about the many areas of the city that we visited.
