The park is 1,317 square kilometers (131, 693 hectares) and ranges from 0 to 152 meters above sea level. Nearly one hundred and six lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu. Wilpattu is the largest and one of the oldest National Parks in Sri Lanka. Wilpattu is among the top national parks world-renowned for its leopard (Panthera pardus kotiya) population. A remote camera survey was conducted in Wilpattu from July to October 2015 by the Wilderness & Wildlife Conservation Trust. A sample of forty nine individual leopards were photo-captured in the surveyed area and the core area density was between that of Yala National Park's Block I and Horton Plains National Park.

Wilpattu National Park
Visit Wilpattu National Park. Wilpattu National Park is a park located on the island of Sri Lanka. The unique feature of this park is the existence of "Willus" - Natural, sand-rimmed water basins or depressions that fill with rainwater. Located in the Northwest coast lowland dry zone of Sri Lanka. The park is located 30 km west Anuradhapura and located 26 km north of Puttalam (approximately 180 km north of Colombo). The park is 1,317 square kilometers (131, 693 hectares) and ranges from 0 to 152 meters above sea level. Nearly one hundred and six lakes (Willu) and tanks are found spread throughout Wilpattu. 5.00We had an amazing experience with Pasindu! He is an excellent driver and does everything within his power to see all the wildlife. He is not a typical driver who waits hours at the same place for the leopard, but he is trying to discover one bij himself bij driving routes where others don’t. We have seen two leopards! It was a wonderful day. Pasindu was on time and the food was good. We would definitely recommend Pasindu as your guide and driver in Wilpattu National Park!

5.00Super driver, spent about 6 hours in the park. He really knew his way around and made sure I got the best view points. Unfortunately I didn’t see any leopards, but that was only the fault of the weather on the day.

5.00On time, first into the park. Friendly, drove safely and respected the animals. We were lucky enough to see a leopard, he handled this quietly - at a good distance - although other jeeps went after it and hunted the animal. Lots of bird, small animals seen. Also a crocodile and water Buffalo. Unfortunately no elephants; but we trust to see them somewhere. All in all: recommended!

5.00Incredible day in the heart of Wilpattu Park. Our guide was really the best and allowed us thanks to his expert eyes to observe the diversity of wildlife that populates this park. We were even fortunate enough to see a leopard for several minutes. This safari day was animal friendly and we were almost all day alone, without any other jeep with us. The dishes were delicious and the breakfast spot was magical, next to the crocodiles. Thank you again for a wonderful day 🙏

5.00We booked a full day safari experience in Wilpattu.. It was great.. We chose Sri Lankan rice and curry for lunch. It was great.. A different taste and experience.. We loved it. We saw two leopards, elephants, birds.

5.00Pasidu was a skilled driver and had a good eye for finding animals.. He went in search of the animals we wanted.. We saw two leopards and a sloth bear. There are many other bird species.. The half day we reserved was not enough.. Reserve a day.. Recommended
