This was the highlight of our trip to Chania and was worth every penny. Vasili picked us up in a minibus with another couple, so there was just the four of us. On the journey, Vasili was friendly and informative, he is obviously passionate about Crete and its traditions. First stop was the modern olive oil factory, where we learnt a lot about the Cretan olive oil production and enjoyed a sampling of various flavoured olive oil, olive jam, olive chutney, balsamic dips with bread and Raki. We also saw an ancient olive tree and vintage olive oil machinery. Next, was a visit to his Nephews sheep farm. After watching a sheep being hand milked, we had the opportunity to bottle feed an orphaned lamb. Meanwhile, Vasili’s nephew was creating a simple sheep cheese, which was delicious. We also tasted both soft and hard sheep cheeses with biscuits and the obligatory Raki. Next, we took a short drive into the mountains to visit Vasili’s home and Winery. Vasili is a keen wine maker and took great pleasure in explaining the wine making process, accompanied by unlimited tastings. Not only is Vasili a talented wine maker, but he Is also a beekeeper. After donning appropriate clothing, we were invited to visit his hives and learn about the production of honey. After a tour of the vineyard, we carried the ingredients of our meal to an open air picnic spot atop the hill. Sadly low level cloud meant we had to carry our ingredients back down the hill to a more sheltered spot near Vasili’s house. The four of us then helped create a delicious Cretan salad, chopping tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, red onion and mixing with lashings of olive oil, soft sheep’s cheese and herbs. Meanwhile, Vasili cooked traditional Cretan sausages and ham. Of course, our meal was accompanied by unlimited wine. All in all, a great day out and fantastic experience.

Words are not enough to describe what an amazing day we had with Vassili on this tour! The olive oil mill and tasting was interesting, the visit to his nephew's sheep farm, milking demonstration and fresh "farmer's cheese", along with other cheese tasting was wonderful. The ride up the hills to the family home and vineyard was just breathtaking! The wine tour and tasting was truly enjoyable, as was putting on our bee suits and assisting Vassili with the bee boxes! Absolutely a highlight of the tour but nothing compares with the delicious meal, wine, cheese and honey that we all shared under a tent in the middle of the vineyard, overlooking endless miles of mountains and terrain. Gorgeous! We appreciated all of Vassili's knowledge of Cretan life, and especially his warm hospitality. We are so thankful for this wonderful experience. Efharisto!

We booked this trip for a party of 6. It was a 3/4 of a day awesome experience. Learned about olive oil production, cheese making, honey harvesting and wine tasting. To top it off we had a great lunch in the vineyard with fresh food prepared right there. We all had a great time and our host was super knowledgeable about many areas. Got a little taste of the rural village life in Chania. Would highly recommend for someone looking for something a little different than most of the touristy options in town. We all enjoyed our time and would definitely sign up again if given the chance

A small group of eight. We had an amazing day with Vasili. Very informative, fun, and he was a great host. Our trip included visiting an olive oil factory, milking sheep at Vasilis’s nephews farm, watching cheese being made, bee keeping, preparing a picnic (group activity), and grape picking. The settings for each activity were just beautiful.

We had a fantastic day with Vasili! He was on time picking us up at the Cruise port. Yes, this tour works great when you are in port! He gave us tons of information regarding the area, the olive trees/oil, cheese and wine. The olive oil press was very interesting and the oil was fantastic. We rarely buy food products to fly home with but this bottle was worth it. The milking of the sheep at his nephews farm was so much fun. The cheese was amazing. Lastly we went to his vineyard and tasted the wines that he has made. They were really good. We had a delicious picnic in his vineyard. This included his mothers spinach pies and her lemon flavored olives. I would love to know how to make those! We had a lovely conversation with his mom before we left.

We had a fabulous day with Vasili on this tour! It was highly informative and interesting, we loved the drive to his vineyard and sharing a delicious freshly made meal. It was a real treat to be offered Vasili’s own wines in his wine tasting lesson and be able to help with the bees. Vasili is very passionate about his work and we loved all he taught us. We highly recommend this tour!

One of my favorite days in Crete. Vasilis was fun, informative, energetic and laid back all at the same time. He and the tour helped create wonderful memories, which I will tell over and over again. We were lucky enough to have his mama Tammy wander out to the lunch with us. After meeting her. I can see where Vasilis gets his charm from.

We arrived home this week from a lovely holiday in Crete. A big highlight was our day spent with Vasili where we learnt so much, including how olive oil is made and how to milk a sheep to make cheese which was unexpected but so interesting! We tried his lovely wine and made a beautiful lunch in the heart of his vineyard which was something we’ll never forget. Thank you for welcoming us to your family home and showing us so much. If you’re thinking of booking then do it!!

This tour was absolutely amazing. It’s a small group and Vasili is lovely!! We were able to learn all about olive oil, rearing sheep in the mountains and making cheese, honey and bees, and of course, wine (including picking some grapes, because it was September)!! The lunch overlooking the mountains and the vineyard was awesome! I would do this tour again in a heartbeat and plan on it when I’m back in Crete!! Do not hesitate to book this to learn more about what it’s like in the villages of Crete from locals!
