My friend and I decided to book this wine tour last minute and it was the highlight of our time in Wanaka! We got to do tastings at four different wineries and tasted a variety of Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. We also had a delicious charcuterie board at Cork∩. Joe was an incredible guide throughout the day, he was super kind, welcoming, and taught us so much about Māori culture along the way! Could not have had a better time, thank you again!

An amazing tour. Joe went beyond! His knowledge of the region and history was so informative. The wineries we visited were small boutique and intimate! Thankyou joe for your wonderful organising, from so much fun, food and tastings. Cant recommend more highly.

This is a great tour. Joe collected us from our accommodation, introduced everyone in the group and welcomed us with a traditional Maori greeting. 5 people on our tour, we visited 4 wineries around Wanaka and sampled somewhere between 16-20 wines. We also had hot chips and a charcuterie board. Joe was entertaining and informative, he took care of everyone and ensured we had a great time. He knows the community well and shared lots of local knowledge about the region and Maori culture. The wines were really great too. Definitely recommend this excursion

Joe was a wonderful tour guide to my small group that attended a wine tour back in March 2026. He even made sure to get transportation so we'd all comfortably fit in the vehicle and be able to attend as our numbers kept changing. Joe brought Māori culture, history, language and information to our group. He was open to answering questions, matched our humor and of course made sure we had delicious food (may have been the most important part). Would absolutely book with Joe again!

One reason we booked Wanaka Wine Tours was to have a Maori cultural experience. The second was it went to lesser known tasting locations and the third was because it visited an actual vineyard and not just the cellar doors. Joe greeted us with a traditional Maori blessing/greeting and hongi. All through the day he told us about Maori history and we were able to ask him lots of questions too as we were the only people on the tour. Joe was numerous and happy to share aspects of modern Maori experiences. The first stop was Mona vineyard. There we tasted about five whites, two reds and a sparkling wine - possibly more ;-). At the end we purchased a bottle of the dry Riesling. The next location was Mount Rosa with a salmon platter lunch overlooking the vineyard and beautiful hill landscape. Here we tried four wines, which tasted different to the Mora. Joe emphasised that we didn't have to be experts as it was down to our personal palate. The third location was a lakefront vineyard obviously not here and the wines were Wet Jacket. We learnt about the history of the name and its links to bird conservation. It turned out that Joe knew Riwai, our charming Maori guide for an evening Kai (food) safari in Christchurch. The tour was a birthday present for my husband, so was a special day, made better by Joe's expertise, humour and friendliness. We felt truly honoured to be on this tour. Thank you very much Joe!

We had a fantastic wine tour in New Zealand with Joe, our Māori local guide and operator. There were six of us, and although we booked through Viator, the day felt completely personalized—more like a private tour designed just for our group. Joe was warm, personable, and incredibly generous with his knowledge, sharing great insights along with local stories that added real depth to the experience. The locations were beautiful and thoughtfully chosen, and the pace was relaxed and enjoyable. A standout moment was Joe literally holding onto one of my friends so she could safely get a close-up video of a herd of sheep without falling over—such a small thing, but it perfectly summed up how attentive and caring he was. An unforgettable day and highly recommended.

We had a wonderful time visiting wineries in Wānaka with Joe. We visited several wineries, and enjoyed a delicious food platter along the way. Joe also shared some cultural information, which added a really nice context to the experience. The car ride was very comfortable, and everything felt relaxed and well organised. Joe was incredibly friendly and warm — by the end of the day, it honestly felt like we were leaving a friend in Wānaka. I would truly recommend this experience. It was a fantastic day.

Joe was an excellent host and it was an incredible experience to hear the history of the area, New Zealand as a whole and his own personal connection to the lands where he lives and works. Joe opened the day with a warm and beautiful Maori welcome and to weave culture, language, land, spirituality and history throughout the day was exactly what we were after. Joe also knows his wines. He's a local so take his advice. I will definitely be booking Joe again when I return to the Tahuna/Queenstown and Wanaka areas.
