After breakfast you meet up with your guide for a canoeing excursion on the lake. Our Canadian style canoes are stable and safe, and paddling is an ideal way to explore this lake and its islands. Keep an eye out for Black-throated diver, Osprey, Common tern, Grey heron and Common crane. Lunch on an island then we head back and you will have some free time to relax, take a swim or go for a hike. In the evening you meet up with your guide again. This time in search for moose! The surrounding forest has proven to be one of the best in Sweden for moose watching. We go for a walk and your guide shares the skills of tracking as we look for hoof prints, fresh droppings and bite marks. We light up a campfire and enjoy an evening meal together in a beautiful spot overlooking a small forest lake. We are out for about five hours, both hiking and driving. Seeing moose, relaxed in their native habitat, is always an awe-inspiring experience. We return to the guesthouse late at night.

Last night's adventure ended late, so you can take your time in the morning. On this day your guide will take you for a walk in a pristine forest. During summer the forest floor is literally covered in berries and later in the summer also mushrooms of all kinds. Lunch in the forest. When we return to the guesthouse enjoy some afternoon rest or hop in the lake for a wild swim. This evening we go on a beaver safari on a lake and river nearby. We move in small boats with silent electric motors in search for beavers and their lodges. We often see a variety of birds and sometimes other mammals on this excursion, and it's a lovely night on the water. We stay out for about five hours and we begin with an evening meal in a small barn. We keep going into the night and return to the guesthouse late at night.

Vastmanland County

Breakfast and lunch at the guesthouse. Feel free to explore the surroundings on your own. After lunch we head out to a nearby forest where a family of wolves keep their territory. Depending on the current situation with the wolves we may search for paw prints, droppings, killed prey and other tracks to give us clues that wolves are around. As darkness descends upon us, we move closer to the wolves to increase our chances of hearing them howl. Sometimes we walk up to an hour in rough terrain, often in the dark, in silence. Our aim is to reach a strategic location where we can settle down and spend a few hours to listen. Hearing wolves howl is one of the most exciting experiences you can have in nature! Although we cannot guarantee that this will happen, we do actually hear wolves howl on most of our tours. We always stay at a respectful distance as we don't want to disturb the wolves. After midnight we return to our camp and sleep well in our tents.

Vastmanland County

Wake up slowly in the forest. We pack up our tented camp and head back to civilisation for a well-deserved lunch at the guesthouse before we conclude the tour. Hopefully it's been five truly fascinating days together with your guide and fellow nature lovers, and it will surely be a little sad to say your goodbyes. You have the chance to have a shower before it's time to leave. We will take you to a train station for a bus or train to Stockholm. As you may be tired after a night in the forest we highly recommend staying an extra night at the guesthouse or even in Stockholm, for a chance to relax and sleep well before you travel. Note that if you decide to stay an extra night at Udden guesthouse, we will not be able to bring you back to Stockholm. But you can easily book your own train from Skinnskatteberg at www.sj.se. The taxi from Udden to the train station in Skinnskatteberg station will be on our behalf.

We did the tour as a family of 7, children aged 17 -23. Every minute was wonderful, our guide Sofia was charming, knowledgable and judged the pace of each activity perfectly. The week was divided in to activities and downtime for each day which we loved, and felt that we'd used every minute to the max. Everything was beautifully planned and organised, and all necessary equipment was available for us to use. (We took our own walking boots and waterproofs) The food was fabulous, the scenery is even better - and even in a torrential rainstorm we loved our picnic supper with a campfire under the tarpaulin. We didn't manage to see Beavers the night we went out to look for them, but we didn't feel that we'd missed out - the evening on the water and our picnic on a little island camp on the lake was dreamy, and a beaver would have been a bonus, but definitely not a requirement. It was huge fun looking for them. For the Wolf tour we were joined by two extra guides, Simon and Eddie (as well as Sofia). I was worried that we wouldn't be able to sit in silence for up to 2 hours without giggling, but after the full and fascinating explanation, wolf workshop and extremely delicious camp supper, we were more than ready to follow all instructions to the letter. Simon was extremely knowledgeable and we were all completely gripped from the start. He managed our expectations very well, and we realised that the chances of hearing a wolf in the current conditions weren't all that high, and the chances of seeing one even less but we were keen to try. Simon and Eddie had spent the previous few days searching a wide aread for signs of recent wolf presence, and selected a spot they thought had the best opportunity. We walked in single file, in silence for about an hour (easy walking on a dirt road), and then sat in the dark for a further hour and a half waiting and listening. It was extraordinary. It was so intense, so full of hope and excitement, that we strained every fibre to hear. To sit in silence for nearly two hours, in a forest far away from signs and sounds of human population is a unique experience on it's own, and something that everyone should think about doing. I felt I could almost hear the trees growing....and then, a wolf howled. It was nothing short of electrifying, a true privilege to hear. It was primal, haunting, beautiful and truly life enhancing. DO NOT MISS A CHANCE TO DO THIS. The hotel is delightful - it has an elegant country house feel, with a calm and efficient management. The food is outstanding, much of it grown in the grounds, and most of the other ingredients are locally sourced. The staff were always smiling and helpful. The Spa is an added bonus, and the lakes are perfect for swimming and canoeing. Honestly, it was the best holiday we've ever had, and we'd do it again in a heartbeat. We will definitely be back to do other tours. One recommendation - stay an extra night in the hotel after the Wolf Tour. It will allow you to digest the full magical experience in a calm and peaceful environment - I think going straight back to a city straight afterwards would have been difficult. •

From the moment of booking Wild Sweden (Gina) were fantastic answering all my questions very industriously and quickly and I loved the fact that however small my question they always said ‘it is good that you ask’ and gave me succinct and timely advice. Well - Simon and Sweden have had a profound effect on us as a family - we miss him and Sweden a lot and are already planning how and when to return. Many of my friends are envious of our trip and even though in reference to the itinerary it could be deemed as unsuccessful - we didn’t see beavers or hear wolves - we wouldn’t change a thing. - In place of beavers we had an owl in flight, a heron in flight, amazing sunset and rain on lily pads and a rainbow - and instead of wolves howling, we had Simon singing and an exciting thunderstorm. However - the icing on the cake was definitely Simon - oh my gosh how do I explain? - Calm, funny, excitable, knowledgeable, reassuring, patient, passionate, full of energy and wisdom. He was wonderful company and his attention to detail when preparing the meals and excursions and flexibility was second to none. He coped with the sassiness of one particular guest in a respectful yet funny way that lent the trip a positive energy and showed his great command of the English language in interpreting situations! For my teenage boys I could not have asked for anyone better - he engaged with them and inspired them on so many different levels - from actively asking about their interests and plans for the future to also supporting and encouraging them in their burgeoning interest in photography with wonderful tips for a ‘richer’ photo of plants, to stopping frequently for the wildlife and staying out longer when some owl juveniles were found after the moose interaction. He filled them with knowledge inspiration and confidence and they blossomed whilst with him. He is truly a treasure and we feel extremely lucky to have found Wild Sweden - we will be booking again!

Incredible week in the gorgeous Swedish countryside. The tour was seemless and we were so well looked after by Wild Sweden from booking onwards. The base of Farna manor was beautiful and we had a good mix of activities and down time so we could enjoy the fancy food and spa!! I even lost my luggage and Gina went out of her way to help me! The tour itself was brilliant - locations, food and wildlife spotting exceptional. Mary our guide was so knowledgeable and cared about giving us the best chance of seeing animals. Highlights were a gorgeous dinner on an island, multiple beaver sightings and seeing a moose taking a bath! For anyone considering a tour with Wild Sweden just do it - an unforgettable experience!

We've been on the "Wolves, Moose & Beavers" tour and had a really great time. Our guide Mary was not only very knowledgeable, but also always in a super good mood and excited about being in nature. We noticed how deeply she cared about nature by doing these little things like trying to save a wasp from drowning, picking up trash at the side of the road or leaving a spot on which we watched moose because a van of another tour operator showed up and she didn't want to disturb the animals too much. We were not only able to enjoy nature in a new way, but also learned a lot! The organisation of the whole week was thought through and Mary was always on top of things. Frida made the booking process a breeze and was also super responsive and helpful when we had questions. Us being vegans was also no problem at all, neither in the hotel nor during the tours in nature. Our group was small and full of nice people. We recommend Wild Sweden as an eco tour operator and want to thank all involved people again for the great time we had.

We booked the Wolves, Moose and Beavers tour as part of our honeymoon because we love wildlife, adventures and being outdoors. We have been to a lot of countries (some very far away from the UK), but can honestly say that this was one of the best holidays we have been on. Simon, our guide, was fantastic and really knowledgeable. The sheep farm accommodation was amazing (the home-cooked food was delicious), and the tours were better than expected. We saw 7 moose on the moose tour and 2 beavers on the beaver tour. But the highlight of the trip was definitely hearing a family of wolves howl in the dark forest and camping in wolf territory - it was incredible and very hard to explain just how spectacular it was. Wild Sweden are truly passionate about what they do, and about wildlife and the environment, which is evidenced throughout. I couldn’t recommend the trip or the company more. There were so many great moments, I wish I could share them all :)

My partner and I have just gotten home from a month of travelling throughout Scandinavia and Iceland, and our week with Wild Sweden was by far the best experience we had... and by far one of the, if not the best week of my life. I've been wanting to visit Sweden forever and Simon, our guide ensured that all my expectations were met and exceeded. Despite him getting sick halfway through the tour, he went above and beyond and was the best guide we could have hoped for - funny, experienced, full of enthusiasm and knowledge about the forests and animals of Sweden. His persistence ensured that we saw wild moose, beavers and heard wolves howling even when the weather was miserable and we were giving up hope. Each of our animal encounters was magical and surreal, but it was moments such as sitting and talking around campfires, foraging for mushrooms, kayaking on a beautiful lake, eating incredible food and laughing together in the van that really made the trip for me. I have already told friends and family about Wild Sweden and encouraged them to make the long journey from Australia just for the experience. I will definitely be back in the future!

This was our first time in Sweden and thanks to our perfect hosts at Wild Sweden, it will certainly not be the last. From the bespoke welcome at the airport to the meticulously and lovingly prepared camp fire dinners, we cannot fault this company. Our two guides for the week, Simon and Elias, were so passionate they made every moment of our treks through forest fun and interesting. The fact that the groups are really small (only 7 of us!) made it really special. Our highlights were the canoeing trip, the sunset dinner on a lake islet and listening to the wolves in the middle of the forest at night. Wild Sweden is an absolute MUST if visiting that beautiful country!

This trip was such an incredible experience. Getting back to nature, experiencing all the different animals in their natural habitat, learning about the wildlife and plants in Sweden and just the overall adventure of this trip is definitely recommended. Simon, our guide was amazing. His enthusiasm was evident from the first day he picked us up at the airport. Over the 5 days we spend a lot of time "nature bathing", just enjoying being outside, and experiencing a big variety of plants and animals. I just loved seeing the beavers and hearing gnaw on branches. One of my highlights was when Simon heard a baby owl in the woods and we "parked" the boat to see if we can find it. Another highlight was the wolf howling tour on the last night. We met Marcus and Per and it was great to hear their stories and for them to share their knowledge about wolves and Swedish wildlife. I just loved the adventure of it all. Sitting by the fire, camping between the tall trees, napping in a hammock and walking around in the woods in the middle of the night trying to hear the wolves. Also, if you are a foodie, this trip is for you. The food is divine! Thank you everyone from Wild Sweden, especially Simon, for such an amazing trip and all the laughs!
