Let the story of the Wright Brothers uplift you on this self-guided driving tour of the Carolina Dunes, where they made their first flight. Find out how these two young men went from repairing bicycles to building the first airplanes (and why those who came before failed) as you explore the majestic North Carolina seashore where the brothers made history. Visit the Wright Brothers National Memorial, stop by the garage site where they built their prototype, and then continue to take in some stunning views at the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and Corolla Beach.

This is a great way to become familiar with the area! Our favorite was the Wright Brothers Museum and Memorial. We liked the self-guided audio tour and the options it gave us to spend more time at stops that interested us or skip by those we preferred to omit.

This audio tour can NOT be done when driving solo, and maybe not at all. First, I don't know how you think this is syncing with driving. "now on your left . . ." when I was not anywhere near that. The map interface did not work at all, so I had to keep entering addresses in my gps, and every time I hit the smallest bump the program would skip to the last segment. I understand that this may not be the fault of the program, it isn't a record, but it made it extra hard to stay on pace with it and I gave up.
