Xi'an City Wall
You will meet at an easy-to-find central location and then wind your way through the narrow streets and alleys by tuktuk within the Xi’an City Wall to find the best food in the city. We’ll take you places where only locals go. You’ll cover a lot of ground and get off the beaten path to family-run restaurants that you (and other tourists) won’t find on your own. Between food stops, you’ll be able to chat with your English-speaking guide about the city while drinking unlimited chilled beer and soda during the ride.
Muslim Quarter
While visiting our 4-5 food stops, you will get to learn about the families that have been making their specialties for generations. You’ll watch your food being made and learn about what makes it so special to Xian locals. Whether it’s sitting by an old man grilling meat over coals in a quaint Muslim Quarter alleyway, or watching noodles hand-pulled to order, there is something to try for everyone. The tour will finish at the only local brewery in Xian where you can tour the facility and sample what’s on tap before we treat you to a pint of your choice.

I had already done Lost Plate's food tour in Chengdu so booking this thing was a no-brainer. Our guide was really cool and took us to places I would never be able to find on my own as a tourist. Covered all the main popular foods of Xian too.

This was an absolute pleasure! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable, not only in food topics, but history and cultural facts :D We took us to hidden gems and corners that we would have never found on our own, and also gave us a few tips for the rest of our time in Xi’an. If you’re going to Xi’an, enjoy trying authentic local food (not necessarily targeted for tourists) I’d say this tour it’s a must!

Our guide Jennifer was informative about the food. The food was lovely and you got to sit with the locals. Going down the small streets in the tuktuk was fun, and we got to see different areas. I will highly recommend it.

Diehl was an excellent guide. The food was fantastic, the neighborhood was lively and exciting, and the beer at the end was a perfect finish to the evening. The tour winds through a maze-like network of alleys filled with countless food options, and without a guide we never would have known where to go or what to order. Every stop Diehl selected was outstanding, especially the Biang-Biang noodles, which were a highlight for us. I also had no idea Xi’an had such a great beer culture — the IPA I tried was terrific. Beyond the food itself, simply walking through the streets at night among the locals made the experience memorable. Highly recommended.

We had an amazing evening experiencing the food of Xi’an with our fantastic guide Buren. Firstly, he was super knowledgeable and clearly very passionate about good food and the local region. Throughout the tour he shared personal stories and interesting history which really added to the occasion. The tuk-tuks were well organised and lots of fun - zooming around the food markets and seeing the other side to the city. And then the food was incredible. My highlight was the skewers and the tofu at the last stop (a restaurant which Buren visits with his family). My husband loved the biang biang noodles. Lots of water, soft drinks and beers are provided throughout, with a reminder to be culturally aware of the Muslim population which was respected. Without question, I would highly recommend, and if you are lucky enough to get Buren as your guide then you are in for a special evening.

Nivea was our Host for the tuk tuk food tour through the narrow alleys in and around the Muslim quarter in the old city. We started with biang biang noodles watching the chef make them by hand. Then in restaurant two to bbq skewers of beef and lamb . Our 3rd restaurant saw us taste soup noodles, cold sesame paste noodles and a dessert of sweet congee. It was then to our last stop we finished with a first boiled, then steamed and finally roasted whole chicken with its head and feet still attached. All the restaurants were small family restaurants. We finished the evening at a bar sampling local beers and ciders. Nivea our Host was expansive in her knowledge and command of English.
