Our tour guide, Elvin Torres, was phenomenal!! Not only was he very knowledgeable about the Mayan ruins and the caves, but he was also down-to-earth and a joy to be around. He was fun and made our first trip to Belize amazing. Now I understand why he was awarded “Tour Guide of the Year” — a well deserved honor for an incredible person and guide. The tour itself was fantastic. I was in awe of the Xunantunich…the structures, the history, the richness and beauty of it all. It felt very spiritual at times to be there. And the cave tubing was so much fun! The water was refreshing after a warm, humid day at the ruins site. Great time! Great excursion.

We were staying in San Pedro and wanted to take the ferry over to Belize city and check out the mainland for a day. This was a perfect combination and even though it was a long day, we had a great time and felt that we were able to see a lot! Alvin was great and answered all our questions! Highly recommend this company as they were responsive to questions before booking and gave great directions on what to bring and where to meet etc.

They booked us from Ambergris Caye to Belize city via Mayan Air. Our guide Elvin picked us up from airport and drove us and 1 other couple to a spot where the other couple took a horseback ride and we continued on to Xunantunich ruins. Elvin was very knowledgeable and let us look around at our own pace. He answered all our questions and gave us the history of how the temples were discovered and how much was fully excavated and documented. He was a great guide. Once done, we headed back and rejoined the other couple for a cave tubing experience that was outstanding. Elvin grew up in the area and knew tons about the caves and local people. The 5 of us had a great time. I think the rum filled pineapple at the end of tubing helped though. We laughed the entire hour it took to get back to Belize city! I would definitely recommend Upclose Belize and Elvin for your tour.

Started the day in San Pedro, tour company arranged flights to and from Belize City. Very smooth process. Was a fairly long drive to the ruins, but Elvin was very knowledgeable and got to know us and made us comfortable. We enjoyed the ruins themselves even though it was hot. Afterward we got back in the car and drove to get a home cooked meal of chicken, rice and beans, and a potato salad which was delicious! One of the best meals we ate on our trip. Next was the cave tubing, which Elvin called “refreshing” when we asked if it was cold :) We enjoyed the short walk to the caves and the cave tubing itself was awesome, a gorgeous way to see a natural site in Belize. I would recommend if you bring your own water shoes they are thick, the rocks on the way to the cave were small but the water shoes we bought in San Pedro at a grocery store were thin and did not cut it for this tour. We should have rented thicker shoes. After the tubing Elvin wanted to make sure we made it back to Belize City for our flight so we left promptly. We arrived back in plenty of time so he gave us a mini driving tour around the city. We loved learning about Elvin and his country, and truly felt we had the best tour in Belize! Would definitely recommend!
