This was our second experience with Bertie and aby (we had done the wine tasting the evening before). We had a great time learning about Yerba mate and it made the rest of our trip better as well! We bought a set and plenty of mate to bring home. We drank some mate on the mountains of bariloche later on and had the proper customs down!

I learned so much about Yerba mate and ate the most delicious homemade pastries. The dog is super cute and will say hi to you. Abi sent me the recipes for the pastries after, which she totally did not need to do, and I will definitely not make them as well as her, but I am looking forward to bringing home a piece of authentic Argentine culture back to my country. She left us with a card to remind us how to make maté, so you don’t have to write everything down.

Really cool experience learning about maté at Abi & Bertie's place. I feel like I've got a much better understanding of this ubiquitous cultural practice and its roots.

If you are interested in yerba mate, then this is a must-do experience in BA. Not only did I learn a lot mate and its preparation, I also got a local's insight on where to go and where/what to eat. This is a smaller and more intimate setting than the other experience I researched on Viator. 10/10 highly recommend!

Had a great time at the mate event hosted by Wine discovery. It was the perfect mix of culture, conversation, and community. I loved learning more about Argentine traditions while connecting with them over a shared round of mate. Super well-organized and a fun, authentic experience. I highly recommend them as they are very nice and good people.

We were looking for a truly local yerba mate experience and that was exactly it! Aby and Bertie are such open and welcoming couple that the workshop seemed to be run by your friends. The experience itself was very informative, they gave us tips on how to choose the best yerba, prepare perfect mate and immerse into local culture. Highly recommend!

This was such a great experience! I booked the mate class with Wine Discovery and it ended up being one of the highlights of my time in Buenos Aires. The class takes place in what feels like someone’s cosy kitchen, with warm lighting, cute art on the walls, and a very sweet dog named Bonnie. It all felt super relaxed and friendly right from the start. Bertie and Aby, the hosts, were amazing—really welcoming and easy to talk to. They had the table set with delicious pastries and different types of yerba so we could taste the differences between Argentina, Uruguay/Brasil, and Paraguay. Aby explained everything really clearly, and I actually learned a ton—not just about how to drink mate, but how it fits into daily life and culture here. We tried a few kinds (Argentina’s was mellow, Uruguay’s was super strong, and Paraguay’s was more herbal), and she showed us the different mate cups and bombillas (straws), how to prepare it properly, and even some fun mate etiquette tips. Aby also shared her personal stories with mate growing up, and honestly, it made the whole experience feel really genuine. Highly recommend this if you want to experience something local, low-key, and special.

We absolutely loved our experience. Bertie and Aby are the loveliest, most welcoming people. The worskhop itself was fun and informative - we learnt a lot and are now fans of yerba mate forever. :-)

We loved learning about the mate and also about Argentina’s culture. Our host was warm and friendly and everyone enjoyed it. I’m told they also do wine experience which we would love to do next time. Our family loved it. Thank you again!

Nice location and nice people who organized the workshop. The explanation was good and there was plenty of time to explain things or just have a chat
