• Make sure you ask about the wind/waves before going, and if they have a maritime radio on board before departure

  What a mess this experience was. I made two different morning time reservations to do the excursion to Marietas islands and the company cancelled both of them and said that only afternoons were available. We did the 315 afternoon tour and weren't warned that the winds can be strong in the afternoon (and were that day with a very strong south wind, but we weren't notified). The normal boat ride was supposed to take 30 minutes or so, and we weren't even half way by then due to the waves. We had to go so slow, as the waves were huge. The boat was not of high quality, the kids on board were flying off the seats with each big wave, and we had water constantly splashing in the boat in our faces. They had us put away all of our belongings due to the waves. At this point, we realized we still had a decent amount of time left to reach the islands, and some were feeling unsafe. Most were wanting to continue, but when my father in law asked if the crew had a maritime radio on board in case of an emergency, they said they usually do, but did not have one on board that day. When people on board realized there was no radio in case of an emergency, we made the decision to turn around. I have contacted Viator and they refunded 10% of our trip and claimed that they only do tours that comply with high safety standards and that the company denies that anything was wrong that day (with weather or safety). I told them I have 4 adults who would be willing to sign an affidavit stating this was not the case, and there was no radio on board, and they have gone quiet. I did many tours with Viator this year, but this will unfortunately be my last. If they really did want high safety standards, they should side with their customers who had safety issues, not the tour owner who was not on the boat that day. They may say they always have an emergency radio on board, and that may be their protocol, but it sure was not followed that day on our trip. Very displeased with how this has been handled with Viator.

  These guys are amazing!! We went last week and had the best time. Our guides were very knowledgeable and helpful. They made sure that we were comfortable and safe. The guide stayed close to my 10 year old son since the waves were high that morning and the swimming was hard at times. We are not used to swimming in water with bigger waves so our guide made sure to stay close and lead. He took lots of photos of us on the beach and made sure we were enjoying our time. I recommend that you check with them early to see when the best months to visit the island as sometimes the water is not as rough. They do their very best to make sure you have a great time.   The guides were very friendly and the experience was very good, we visited different points of the Marieta Islands, we saw whales and we entered the beach of love where they helped us enter. If you don't know how to swim, they will help you get in without you having to worry, 100% recommended
