Working in Kigali, I was treating myself to a day trip out, so a Bisoke hike seemed just right. I used S2G to organise my hiking permit and to ferry me from Kigali to Bisoke and back. Aron was on time, had advised me on what to take and was chatty and informative on the way to the Park's HQ. If you’ve never been before, the Rwandan Development Board (RDB) have done a fine job of establishing a well run, comfy facility to welcome guests to the Park. The freebie Q Coffee of your choice was also a pleasant surprise before the Park briefing. The lead Ranger for our group heading up Bisoke was Roger, and he is an informative, completely engaged guide with a challenging responsibility of keeping everyone well informed and safe on a hike that, weather depending, can be more than challenging. The weather around Bisoke was absolutely fine, but the top was shrouded in thick cloud. This said, a group who lingered at the top experienced a break in cloud cover and saw both the crater lake and the two neighbouring volcanoes which was denied to the early departers. The personal guides hired from the settlement at the trail head, where you are offered a walking stick (definitely take what you are offered) were worth it if you are a runner or a trudger from my experience. Im my case on the day I was definitely in the latter camp, as my late sixty year old pair of legs went dysfunctionally AWOL on the last two kilometres on the way back and I found myself tumbling down the hill instead of walking. Vincent, a young wanna be engineer and village guide (hired for FRW 15,000) got me back down the mud slide of a path in one piece after numerous tumbles and a fall into a patch of giant nettles (it had rained for three days previously!). He was priceless, and the nearby Ranger, Roger, was top notch. Had the days additional unwanted experiences occurred anywhere but Bisoke, I wouldn't have called the day an "adventure"! While there was no unexpected meeting with my distant relation Silverback, the sight of a golden monkey in a nearby tree was a bonus. To wrap up the day, and prep for the trip back to Kigali, Aron got me a couple of cold beers for the return journey, so the day ended with welcome thirst quenching pain relief! If you can, plan for a climb when the path is dry. Dress as recommended. Wear appropriate footwear! Or you will suffer the consequences! On the day, I was more than muddied, but it was memorable. PS. I like to believe that dinosaurs trekked this path long before me, as I’m sure that’s a footprint embedded in the rock next to my shoe! Perhaps worth investigating by a professional as it might add to the draw of the misty mointain.

A friend recommended me to contact Nshuti Daniel. and he was really of great help. He helped with the booking, and the hiking in bisoke, however challenging, was a memorable experience. Thank you very much for the guidance and encouragement. I can't believe I made it to the top!

Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by NSHUTI Danie , and we felt welcomed and with such a friendly atmosphere we had a fantastic start! The journey to Musanze and the Hiking of Bisoke was extremely good, Danie was very flexible (appreciate this!) and for that He deserves a special thanks. We had a great day there, which obviously also added up to the experience. Nshuti is such a warm personality and highly motivated with what he does (recommendable!). The weather was beautiful and it was a great experience to hike in such environment. To spot some gorillas by chance and for free at the end going back was a great way to end the tour. All respect for Nshuti who does a great job here in Rwanda; a true sample of excellent Travel and tour guide! Many thanks again and I recommend Nshuti Danie to everyone!
