Upon our arrival, we met Epifanio, a very kind and polite person who explained everything and gave us advice on the best places to dine and visit. I highly recommend it.

Did the HopOn HopOff bus as wanted to go from the cruise port to Aquarium. We asked how long it would take to get there on the North route and was told 1 and half hours and 40 mins to return to ship. We paid 25 euros each and had a 5 minute walk to get the bus. The bus headed off and after 45 minutes it stopped for a 10 minute break at the craft village. At this point we asked the driver how much longer it would be to get to the aquarium and was told it would be 1 and half hours. We told him that we were told that was the time from port to Aquarium but he said it is 2 and a quarter hours there and 1 hour 15 minutes back to port from there. We got off the bus at the next stop of Mdina, wondered around and then waited for another bus to take us back to port, having been told they come every 20 minutes. 30 minutes passed and still no bus so got taxi costing 40 euros, to take us back to the port. So in all, we were miss informed of the time it takes to get around and then how often buses turn up and ended up costing us more, due to having to get taxi back to port. I DO NOT recommend this Hopon Hopoff bus tour.

I bough a ticket on their Hop-On Hop-Off bus for me and my family. We got off on Blue Grotto station, and was planning to catch the last bus at 16.55pm back to our hotel in Sliema. We were waiting at the pivk up point from 16.45pm, but the bus didn't show up. As I was told by the operator on the phone, the bus was already gone. No compensation, no support was offered whatsoever. Not recommended at all!

Whilst the harbour cruise was excellent, the hop on/off bus tour which we did the following day was disappointing. Unlike other countries bus tours, due to the distance of the route including going to hotels at one end of the island, you can only really visit one or two sites at most. There are two routes, but buses only run every hour for each one. There are only two stops in Valletta, and it was not clear that we were at the correct location. Unfortunately on the day of our trip the road was closed for a procession, which meant the bus did not arrive and there was no communication. After waiting for ages, I phoned Customer Services, but was unable to speak to anyone. Fortunately, a guide from another operator who was at our location told us where to go for the other pickup site in Valletta. I would add that I am not sure why we were given headphones as there was little information provided regarding the local landmarks.

In principle it’s a great way to see the island, but even with priority bus lanes, the hold ups are dreadful. If I had prior knowledge of this, I think I’d have saved my money and hired a car and avoided the places I wasn’t interested in seeing. It’s very crowded and it’s the same for every bus, which is quite annoying. Some of the headphone sockets don’t work and if you’re downstairs, the view is blocked by advertising stickers.

A rather pleasant day with very welcoming professionals. However, considering the late departure time with the boat: On the island time is precious and leaves us insufficient time to see in detail.
