This is a unique self-guided trekking holiday exploring the beautiful landscape of the Cyclades. Andros, blessed with lush vegetation and flowing streams is the greenest island, a walker's paradise, and only two hours from Athens.
On this self-guided holiday program, you take your own pace walking on ancient stoned trails crossing mountain ranges, passing through rural landscapes of great beauty and picturesque villages, while you enjoy swimming in the crystal blue sea of the Aegean.
We book your hotels, we transfer your luggage, while you end your everyday hike in a different destination. Accommodation family-run hotels. One overnight in a remote forested village in a farmhouse.
We give you our "walker's pack". An information pack with carefully planned routes for all levels and their technical descriptions, as well as, all the necessary details for an ideal self-guided walking holiday on Andros.
We are here for you 24/24 as we are locals and more than willing to help you.

A welcome dinner and a little talk about the program and Andros ' Trails.

We will meet you at the port and drive you to your hotel. Arrival day and check-in. Welcome drinks, Greek ‘mezes’ in the evening. You will meet one of our team and receive your Self-Guided documentation - "Walker's Pack" with a little talk about the trails, the island, and the program.
Trek 1 : North Andros. Froussei Valley Distance 15 km.

After your breakfast, you will get a transfer to the starting point of your trekking day. Your trekking experience starts from Froussei Valley. You will walk through this unique ravine between Ammolohos and Palestou, along the stream where you will meet old stoned watermills, with homes that operated until the mid- 20th century and were all together the unique millers' village that served the surrounding villages. One can be surprised by the use of water as energy in Andros, considered Cyclades to be a dry and windy complex. Τhen the route gradually ascends to cross the village of Ammolohos and reach the top of the mountain (600 m). Crossing the high slopes of Gavrio and with a magnificent view of the port and the sea, your first trekking day ends in Gavrio and your accommodation.
Trek 2 : North West Andros. St. Peter's Tower - Agia Monastery - Batsi. Distance 10km

Starting your trekking day from Gavrio Town and before reaching the homonymous village, you will cross the Agios Petros (St. Peter) Tower, dating from the Hellenistic (4th-3rd century BC) and is one of the best preserved in the Cyclades. After crossing the picturesque village the trail continues west and to the Monastery of “Agia” which really worth a visit. From there, a nice descent trail leads you to the seaside beautiful Batsi. Batsi is known for its picturesque round bay and its clear water.
Trek 3 : West to Central Andros. The Venetian Trail and the verdant village of Menites Distance16km

Menites
Have a good breakfast and get prepared for a demanding walking day. Your trek starts from your hotel following one of the oldest and longest routes on the island. Called “Fardia Strada” from the Venetian times the trail will lead you to Pitrofos Village, with splendid views of the sea while you cross the mountain to end in Menites Village. A long trail with challenging elevations this is a combination of four routes of the network, extremely varied landscape, and terrain!
Trek 4 : Central to South Andros. Panachrados Monastery and Korthi Bay. Distance 12 km

Overnight in Korthi. Korthi is a picturesque seaside village with cafes and restaurants. Standard Double Room.

Ormos Korthiou
A combination of two different routes of the Andros Routes hiking network, and a part of Andros Trail Race trail, this trekking day will take you to Panachrados Monstery, located at the mountain range of Gerakonas at 550 m. The trail will bring you to the next side of the mountain heading South to the picturesque villages of Korthi area. A rich agricultural landscape and splendid views to the sea as you reach the seaside town.
Trek 5 : South to North East Andros. Andros Town Hora, the capital. Distance 12 km

Andros Town
One of the most popular routes of the network with an abundance of agriculture landscapes. That was the old road leading to Hora, connecting the two medieval castles of the island which was the central agricultural and commercial artery for south-eastern Andros until 1950. The Upper Castle, the gorge of Dipotamata with the stone watermills, the arched bridge, and the village Sineti are some of the spots you will cross as you walk to the end.
Trek 6 : North East Andros. The seamen's villages and Pythara small waterfalls. Distance 8km

Overnight in Apoikia. There is only one hotel, the Sariza Hotel, and only one small tavern.

A relatively shorter walk today starting from the capital town towards Apoikia Village. A very well-preserved trail through major settlements of seamanship and rural Andros goes up parallel to the Pythara ravine. Don’t miss to visit a small detour to the small waterfalls. Depending on the season, and as Apoikia is a remote village, may the only hotel, be closed. In this case, you will walk a 12km circulare route and you will overnight in Andros town, one more night.
Trek 7 : North East to Central West Andros. The summit and the forested Arni. Distance 11 km

Dinner and breakfast are provided by the host. Arni is a very remote village and there are no facilities at all.
This is a majestic route from the northeast and Apoikia village through the rural and mountainous Vourkoti settlement and towards the greenest area of the island the forested valley of Arni. Walking on the ridge of the highest point of Andros, Kouvara, you will experience breathtaking views and unique diverse scenery.
Trek 8 Central to West Andros. The picturesque Batsi Bay. Distance 11km

5.00One Foot Forward tour company tailor made a 30 day Cyclades Islands walking tour for my husband and I. We visited seven different islands and so enjoyed self guided walks on diffrent and very beautiful islands. Our tour was so very well organised from pre trip communication to easy, very accessible communication and information during our stay. One Foot Forward staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. The tour they organised for us took into consideration our walking abilities and requests and we were very happy with everything. The chosen hotels were extremely comfortable and in great, easy to access locations, often close to towns/villages so we could walk to restaurants etc. The walks were excellent, some challenging, but so rewarding. Instructions were clear and easy to follow - we also received ordnance survey maps. We were given interesting books too about different islands to learn about the flora and fauna. If you want a fabulous walking trip that is very well organised and therefore stress free with wonderful walks covering many different areas of islands, then this is the company you need to be in touch with! Thanks One Foot Forward - we had an amazing trip and it is certainly on our bucket list to return!

5.00Ariana and her crew did a fantastic job of organizing the logistics of our self-guided hiking experience. Accommodations were as described and food was Greek, so excellent. The hiking was hotter than anyone expected and I suffered a bout of heat exhaustion. Ariana was in close contact as I recovered and her team tweaked our logistics so that we could finish out our trip with a minimum of disruption. The hiking was glorious and the safety net provided by One Foot Forward (GPS and paper maps, background materials, 24 hr emergency contact) made all the difference to us and allowed us to focus on the adventure of each day. Thank You. We would recommend this trip to anyone seeking a new adventure with guard rails. Dotty and Annie

Accommodation ranged from basic to very good. The hike itself was amazing. Andros is beautiful, and the old trails are delightful and challenging in equal measures. Highly recommended!

The organization by Ariana and her team was excellent in every respect, from the communication beforehand to the welcome dinner and selection of tours and accommodations down to the little details. 5.00We have done all the 7 hikes as proposed in the tour. All arrangements worked perfect, all transfers, all luggage transports, ferry tickets - everything just perfect! And the hikes as well were perfectly signposted, one can't get lost! And together with the provided GPS tracks, we always knew exactly where we were. One Foot Forward classified this hike as "difficult". Being experienced hikers, especially in Greece, we just can confirm that. But it's worth all the effort! We've got a deep and long lasting impression of the island of Andros! And the guys of One Foot Forward did just a perfect job! Thanks a lot!

5.00We very much enjoyed our hiking holiday in Andros. The organisation was absolutely fantastic. Ariana arranged everything superbly, from the hiking to restaurants to any other help we needed. One of our party had a minor health incident which Ariana and her team helped resolve speedily. We often joked that the answer to any problem was simply "ask Ariana". Andros is a beautiful island, unusually green and hilly, with well established, clearly signposted trails. We stayed in 3 different locations which gave us good coverage of the island. Hotels were great and the various restaurants provided genuine island hospitality and delicious, varied local cuisine. We would strongly ecommend One Foot Forward and Ariana and her team without hesitation

5.00Ariana was very patient organising and reorganising our walking trip many times; frequently postponed by pandemic related issues we finally went in May 2022. At all times Ariana kept in touch with us on our self-guided trip, checking on our status and needs. The walking was varied and we saw much of the island. From wildlife and spring flowers to attractive villages and welcoming monasteries our walks were interesting and rewarding. The paths are well established and signed. Together with Ariana's GPS tracks, notes and maps navigation is easy. That said on most days we met no one, we had the hills to ourselves. The accommodation, chosen to fit our route, was varied and well chosen. Ariana ensured that we were welcomed and well catered for everywhere. We recommend Ariana to any walkers on Andros.
