This two-day tour takes you to some of the country's top filming locations. You'll visit ancient Roman ruins and underground houses, cross a vast salt lake and spend the night in an oasis on the fringes of the Sahara.
Begin your desert adventure at El Jem Colosseum. This ancient Roman stadium used to seat 35,000 spectators, entertained by gladiatorial fights and chariot races. After your cultural fix, head to Matmata, for lunch and a visit to the rock-cut cave homes that starred in the Star Wars films. Finish the day in your very own oasis for an overnight stay in Douz, the ‘Gateway to the Sahara'.
In the morning, you'll cross Chott el Djerid, a rust-washed salt lake, before hopping into a 4x4 for a ride to Onk Jemal. Here, you'll explore a film set city built exclusively for Star Wars. We will stop for a Tunisian lunch at Gafsa and in the afternoon, round off the tour with a photo stop at historic Kairouan.

Pleasant experience, at times the drive was long, especially the second day. Made stops along the way but was a very long day. Very early morning. Great guide and driver.

If you are looking to visit all of the tourist traps in Tunisia, book this trip. Basically the excursion consists of being driven around and taken to tourist trap destinations, shops, and restaurants across southern Tunisia while giving you as little context as possible. From the very pickup the guide starts advertising ways for you to spend money. The prices are usually 10x what it SHOULD cost for tourists, and quality is always questionable. For example: we were given some time at El Jem, but then the guide took us to the coffee shop right outside and advertised camel rides. Camel rides were ok (as expected, very tourist-centric), but you might as well find a camel somewhere on the beach and ride it - no need to go to Sahara. You also don’t need to have a turban…another expense that wasn’t mentioned in description. Kairouan is known for mosques, but we didn’t go into one—instead we were taken to a rug shop and a pastry shop to buy what seemed like machine made rugs and stale pastry. Some people decided to check out the mosque, and were promptly kicked out because visitors are not allowed after noon. We also only had about 5 minutes to marvel at sunrise at the salt lake…which was my personal favorite place. Sahara 4x4 ride was fun, but the guide was always rushing us back to the bus. Guide’s whole demeanor was that we should never leave the premises where he took us—maybe to avoid us finding out that water or coffee should never cost 14 dinars or god forbid interact with real locals or taste anything flavorful. Restaurants along the way all had food devoid of flavor—definitely not authentic Tunisian—the worst of Tunisia. Hotel overnight had mold and more tasteless food. Overall, this booking was a waste of your time and money. Also, pretty much double the cost of this trip because you will have to pay that much for unexpected things along the way that cost 10x as much as they should everywhere else.

A lot of time spent on the coach, but plenty of comfort stops (toilets , especially ladies, are ok but not the best) & 2 early morning starts, but totally necessary to cover the 700+ mile trip. Camel trip is an additional cost (about £10) but well worth doing to spend an hour in the Sahara on a camel!! Guides walk along side a caravan of 3or4 camels keeping everyone safe. Although pushed to purchase head scarves they are not necessary! Overnight hotel was lovely & in Tunisian style. Included 4x4 land rover trip to Star Wars theme set brilliant whether you like the film or not. All food was of a decent quality although drinks not included (approx £1-£1.50 for "coke," or beer). Only slight disappointment was the supposed trip to the mosque in the "holy city"as the impression from the tour information was that a visit to it was included. Actually it's always closed to tourists in the afternoon ( when the tour gets there!!) & you get taken to the roof of a gift shop/carpet factory to view the minorette & then taken to downstairs where they'd like you to buy a carpet!! On a positive side, the gift shop has the cheapest souvenirs I had seen anywhere!! All in all, as that was the only negative point the trip is one of the best I've been on.

Aida, Saleh & the other staff involved were all fantastic people. They took us to the most scenic, beautiful & famous spots. Aida is extremely knowledgeable, very smart & an impressive linguist who speaks multiple languages. Saleh is a skilled driver & fun comedian :)! We always felt safe on the roads. The Team knew exactly where to go & what to do, we were kept very well informed about times, locations, distance, prices, etc, which was really helpful. Get some rest the night before you leave because these 2 days are packed full with activities & travelling from early morning to early evening. It's an adventure not to be missed. Happy New Year Team & Thank you so much. Xxx
