Sightseeing in Addis Ababa

Morning - start your day with a visit to the National Museum to see the famous fossil "Lucy" and other archaeological treasures. After the museum, head to Holy Trinity Cathedral to explore its impressive architecture and beautiful stained glass windows and the tombs of Emperor haileselase and his wife. Lunch - enjoy traditional Ethiopian cuisine at a local restaurant. Injera with various stews is a must-try! Afternoon - spend your afternoon wandering through the bustling Merkato market, one of the largest open-air markets in Africa. It's a vibrant place to experience local life and shop for souvenirs. Evening - head to the Entoto Mountains to catch a stunning sunset and panoramic views of the city. You can also visit Emperor Menelik II's palace and the St. Mary's Church.
Excursion outside of Addis
Debre Libanos Orthodox Church
Morning - leave your accommodation and head towards Debre Libanos Monastery. The journey can take around 2-3 hours. Debre Libanos Monastery - one of Ethiopia's most important religious sites. Spend time exploring the monastery complex, which includes ancient churches, chapels, and stunning views of the surrounding landscape and a timeless museum. Visit the Portuguese Bridge - the bridge is a historical landmark and offers a great opportunity for photography and enjoying the scenic beauty of the Blue Nile Gorge. 5.00Our guide, Haymi, really proved to be the perfect introduction to Addis Ababa and life there. We spoke throughout our two days together about the city and Ethiopia in general, as he drove us to numerous places we had asked to visit. He was courteous and respectful to us, patient in answering our many questions at length, knowledgeable about his country’s history and culture across Ethiopia. He had asked us at the outset about the type of things which interested us and what we might want to experience, and as a clearly experienced tour guide, Haymi did not disappoint. Among the sights he took us to were Haile Selassie’s palace and his resting place, where we saw his and the Empress’s tombs, the National Museum of Ethiopia where we saw, among many things, the bones of our famous ancient ancestor, Lucy, and the dramatic and scenic mountaintop Entoto Park. Spending time with Haymi felt like spending time with a friend and we thoroughly recommend him.

5.00Dear Haymanot, Thank you so much for all the help and arrangements and the local knowhow about the traditions and where to get what we need. It was wonderful to travel especially on Saturday outside the Addis Ababa with you safe driving skills and great attitude, when the driving sometimes can be a bit of a challenge outside if the city. The minibus was well equipped and came with the Wi-Fi which was a great addition. Discussing with you in the road was fun and I will definitely reach out to your transfer and travel services in the future on the upcoming trips to Addis. Thank you once again for everything! 5.00Haymie also doubles up to drive a taxi. During a work visit, my company hired him. While driving us around, he seemed to be quite immersed in and knowledgable about not just tourist sites but also current events and their impacts on the country. On enquiry I found he had a degree in Sociology and Anthropology and had then gone on to study and work in the tourism sector. I was keen to travel to Lalibela and he custom designed the trip for me at an extremely reasonable price ( much much lower than other operators) and with the added benefit of having him - a very knowledgable and experoenced guide. Unfortunately I was unable to go on the Lalibela tour. But if I visit this unique land again , I know who i will be planning my visits with, for sure!

5.00We were linked to Haymi through our hotel, and had the most incredible two days exploring Addis and learning about Ethiopia. He is both an excellent driver and passionate guide, highly intelligent and knowledgeable. Thanks to his socialization with tourists in Lalibela as a student, he is incredibly fluent in english. He will customize your tour, and educate you in his unique witty manner. Don't miss the National Museum where you will meet Lucy/Dinkinesh, and learn about the national flag and the country's background. Explore the parks, churches, markets and be spoiled at a traditional coffee ceremony. Do it with Haymi!
