What To Expect

Ahu Nau Nau

Platform on the beach of Hanga Rau o te Ariki (Anakena) where the capital of the old society was located. It has 7 moai on its surface, which are the best preserved restored in the whole island, revealing the greatness of Rapa Nui culture. We will also see Ahu Ature Huki, restored by the Rapa Nui community in the 50s.

Ahu Te Pito Kura

It houses the outstanding Moai Paro, the largest transferred from the Rano Raraku quarry to his ahu successfully. Although lying down almost two centuries ago, this moai is a landmark in the history of statues, with height of 9.9 meters and an estimated weight of more than 80 tons. It was torn down and has not yet been restored. The gigantic pukao of almost 2 meters high and about 10 tons, located in front of the moai, also stands out as one of the bulkiest headdresses coming from Puna Pau. According to navigator accounts, this was one of the last Ahu with his moai erected.

The attention we received from Rapa Nui Dreams was excellent. First, they organized a trip for us that fit the short amount of time we had, and we were able to see the island’s most important highlights. Our guide, Ignacia, demonstrated great professionalism—she was always punctual and showed extensive knowledge not only of the attractions but also of Rapa Nui culture. Thanks to her, we left not only with knowledge of the archaeological sites, but also with a deep understanding of the cultural aspects of Rapa Nui. She also shared with us what everyday life is like for the inhabitants of this beautiful island. Her service attitude was outstanding, always willing to adapt to our needs. It was truly a wonderful experience.

We try to travel independently but if you really want to understand Rapa Nui you have to take a tour with Rapa Nui Dreams. We were led by Joachin for the Explore tour and Nero for the Dreams tour. Both were excellent. Their knowledge is extensive and their passion is tangible. They mix humor with personal anecdote and thoughtful, honest insights into Rapa Nui history and culture. We loved both tours. They improved our experience on Rapa Nui by 1000%!

So many wonderful places to see. Joaquin was animated and gave us history of the island and people. The weakness was he often started explanation before we were with the group. We are older and careful where we walk so sometimes we were a little behind. Overall, a very consise tour to see the highlights.

When booking a tour the sites and places you are going to visit are not the only important thing of it. Without an excellent guide you can’t really enjoy it in full. We have been lucky having Chris with us. He is very professional and prepared, he speaks a perfect English and, most importantly, he will take you to visit the island as a friend and not as a simple guide. I hope each of you could have the same experience as it really gave us the opportunity to enjoy in full.
