The Alhamra Arts Council is located on a colonial-period road in Lahore, Pakistan, that was formerly known as Mall Road and has been renamed as Shahrah Quaid-e-Azam. The origins of the arts complex lie in an initial commission of Nayyar Ali Dada to design a 1000-seat auditorium for the Alhamra Arts Council (AAC), of which he was a member. The AAC had been given the site by the government in the years immediately following independence but had generally staged its performances outdoors. The auditorium was completed in 1979 and replaced some temporary buildings.

The building is currently used as the Punjab Archives, and public access is limited. Construction of the tomb dates to either 1599, or 1615. The tomb was said to be built by the Mughal Emperor Jehangir for his love, named as Anarkali, who, as per legend, was suspected by Emperor Akbar to have relations with Jehangir, at the time known as Prince Saleem.

The Ravi river is a shadow of its former self as it runs past Lahore, which is sprawled on its eastern bank. Not really a river any more, it is but a filthy stream contaminated by the toxicants released into it from factories along the nearby Shahdara road. In the winter, the river looks even worse because its flow has been reduced to a trickle, making a mockery of the buttresses constructed on its banks to prevent flooding in the past. In fact, some nomads set up temporary camps on dry patches of the riverbed in the winter, confident that water will not displace them. But come summer or winter, boatmen on each bank of the Ravi offer to take picnickers to the baradari or summer pavilion of Kamran Mirza, which stands on a little island in the middle of the riverbed.

Shahdara can be translated as the door of kings and also known as "the way of kings". Shah translates as "king" and dara translates as the way. In the 15th century, Shahdara was the entrance gate of Lahore during the Mughal Empire. It hosts several historic Mughal architectural sites. These include the Akbari Sarai, the Tomb of Jahangir (who was the Emperor from 1605 to 1627) and the tomb of his brother-in-law Asif Khan. Shahdara Bagh is also home to Kamran's Baradari (Kamran Ki Baradari). Although this site was originally built on the Ravi River bank, the change of the river course turned it into an island in the riverbed. The small garden houses the tomb of Mughal Princess Dohita Un Nissa Begum (1651-1697).

Last year me n my family members explore lahore fully as we read many articles about old city of lahore. Believe me it was best experience to explore city. I believe best breakfast still exist in old city of lahore . We enjoyed traditional lahori breakfast of Halwa Pori from Taj mahal hotel. After that we hired Tounga ride and took walled city tour. We also visited Lahore fort, Badshahi Mosque, Masjid Wazir Khan. We entered through Dehli gate and explore narrow streets of lahore. Also visited Masjid Ayaaz, Neeven Masjid and much more. Strongly recommended. Yes it is right 1 day is not enough .. you need atleast 3 days to explore fully lahore.
