It was a nice day to go birding, and the drive to the birding area was along a well maintained road. We saw loads of birds found in the hills above Uvita. And afterwards, the traditional breakfast was delicious, prepared by Samantha’s mother. Samanta’s knowledge of the birds, was very thorough, and she knew the names of all of the birds we heard, and she had very good hearing! She and her family have a long long history in the area, and we learned a lot about the community and the culture, as well.

We had a great morning with Samanta at Oro Verde Reserve. She is very knowledgeable and passionate about birds, and was incredible at calling and spotting them for us to see. She was well equipped with several pairs of binoculars as a well as a spotting scope and tripod. We saw more birds on this tour than others we have taken, and enjoyed it so much that we tried to book again a few days later for additional family members. The tour finishes with breakfast on a deck overlooking the ocean. The tour lasts a little over three hours and is not a difficult walk for most people. It's a good value, and a lasting experience.

My husband is an avid bird watcher, and both of us enjoyed walking through Oro Verde with the owner and spotting birds. We had a pair of binoculars, but were provided with better binoculars. The walk is not too difficult, and we saw loads of birds. Including macaws, hawks, hummingbirds, and parrots, among many many others. My favorite was a little bird nicknamed the Susie bird that came in response to our guide’s whistle and puffed up each time it whistled back. A very knowledgeable guide. We learned a lot about birdwatching, and also about the history of the area. I loved seeing the sugarcane press, and also meeting our guide’s family, and listening to Samantha play guitar. A bonus was the excellent breakfast. It was a wonderful way to spend the morning.

This tour was wonderful. Our guide was very knowledgeable and personable. Our hike was not too hard but a little muddy because it is the rainy season. The day was very pleasant. Saw a variety of birds, including a family of toucans! We were provided good binoculars and she even carried a telescope that she connected to a phone for photos that she shared with us. Breakfast with her mother was very natural and the coffee was very good. Ours was flavored with the cane syrup made on their own property. We give this tour two big thumbs up.

Samantha is a wonderful birder and guide.. If you are able to get a hike with her, we encourage you to do so. We have been on many nature hikes/tours in Costa Rica. This stands out as one of the best because of the way she personalized the experience. We walked a property with a variety of habitats and trails and saw many species. Then she took us to her house nearby where we ate a home cooked breakfast and enjoyed a beautiful view. She even serenaded us on guitar with a lovely song she had composed herself. For us, this was a unique and memorable experience….the frosting on the cake!

Our fantastic guide Samantha was truly passionate about birds and nature in general. She gave us all not only views of multiple stunning birds, but also lots of information on them. We were able to get some amazing photos, and to top it off, we were able to enjoy some delightful food and music afterwards. I couldn't recommend more!!

This tour was one of the highlights of our trip to Costa Rica. Samantha was an excellent guide, very skilled at finding and identifying the birds we saw as we toured her family’s property. The 3 hour birding tour was followed up with a wonderful traditional Costa Rican breakfast, and Samantha playing Costa Rican folk songs on her guitar, how can you beat that?
