What To Expect
Day 1 1245 hrs: Pick-up from Mango Garden, Sepilok. Transfer to Tanini Kinabatangan via Kota Kinabatangan. ( 2 hours journey ) Arrival at Lodge: Welcome drinks, orientation, check-in. 1600 hrs: Afternoon boat cruise along the river. After dinner: Guided night walk. Overnight at Lodge. Day 2 0500 hrs: View misty Kinabatangan River. 0600 hrs: Morning boat cruise (wildlife sightings). 0800 hrs: Breakfast. 0900 hrs: Jungle walk . 1200 hrs: Lunch and rest. 1600 hrs: Afternoon wildlife boat cruise. After dinner: Night walk. Overnight at Lodge. Day 3 0600 hrs: Morning river cruise (birds, wildlife). 0700 hrs: Breakfast. 0830 hrs: Check-out, transfer to Sandakan. Drop-off at accommodation or airport (recommended flight 1400 hrs onwards).

5.00Here’s a polished but honest and balanced review that keeps your experience authentic while clearly explaining the issue at the start: We did the 3D/2N River Safari, and overall it was an absolutely incredible experience. The staff were lovely, professional, and extremely knowledgeable, which made the entire trip even more special. We were unbelievably lucky to see the Borneo Big 5 on our very first boat cruise: Orangutan, pygmy elephant, proboscis monkey, crocodile, and the rhinoceros hornbill. Seeing all of them so quickly felt unreal. One of the most unforgettable moments was when the elephants actually walked right through our lodge. The lodge itself is stunning, surrounded by thick forest and completely alive with wildlife sounds. You truly feel immersed in nature. The food was amazing, far exceeding expectations for a remote jungle setting. The only downside was at the very start of the trip. Our package was all-inclusive, including meals, yet when we were picked up, we were taken to a restaurant and told that the meal there was not included and that we would need to wait while others ate. I explained that once we had been picked up, the trip had already started, and the meal should, therefore, be included. If not, we asked to be returned to our hotel and picked up again after the others finished — which is what ended up happening. It was a slightly awkward start and could definitely be handled more clearly in the future. That said, apart from this initial hiccup, the trip was truly outstanding and unforgettable. The wildlife encounters, the lodge, the food, and the staff all made this an experience we’ll remember forever. Highly recommended, with just a small note for better clarity at the beginning.
