This course is not only help you learn Chinese calligraphy, but also the wisdom of Chinese ancients Yin-yang theory to find your inner peace. Enjoy 1.5 hour calligraphy class. Get insight into Chinese culture while practicing Calligraphy with your patient teacher Stroll through the zigzag hutongs that non tourists touch, Learn Chinese Culture and people's daily life. Super nice calligraphy class, the guide was very kind and teach to us the basic of chinese calligraphy, we got some backround infos about the history, some jokes ;) we tried dumplings and saw some piece of Hutong.

After very enjoyable and relaxing caligrafy class we went to a very tasty dumpling place. Vegeterian dumplings also available . Very tasty. After that we went to a tea house for tea ceremony. All the explanations about the teas and how to make them available in English and also russian language by a nice funny guy. After that you can also purchase the tea and spaciel cups at the store there.

Thank you Richard for a great day. Loved the Calligraphy class, walk through the Hutong and the Tea ceremony. We learnt a lot and had a great day. Can highly recommend to anyone for a fun day and you come home with an awesome calligraphy panting you made yourself!!

Richard’s class was a wonderful hands-on introduction to the art of Chinese calligraphy. I learned how to properly hold and maneuver the brush, as well as the importance of mindful breathing while practicing. The entire experience was thoroughly enjoyable. After the class, Richard’s assistant, Estella, guided me on a tour through the hutongs, bringing the area to life with her insights into their rich history and modern significance. We stopped at a charming dumpling restaurant offering a wide variety of delicious options. The hutong tour culminated in a tea tasting session, which was both delightful and informative.

Richard is a calm, professional and patient teacher. He is not the kind of person who will explain you the most difficult Chinese character for show-off, but instead he will teach you the whole philosophy of calligraphy, the right technique, in a calm but fun environment. It's ideal for an introduction to calligraphy (if yo have 0 knowledge), but his deep skills make him also a good teacher also advanced learners who want to deepen their calligraphy knowledge! My experience: during Covid times, in 2022, we organized together calligraphy classes for expatriate families with kids, as tourists couldn't come to China at that time. They really appreciated his resilience and good vibes. Richard was very positive, always thinking "It will get better soon" :). After China reopened to tourism, he kept working hard and teaching with passion! If you are visiting Beijing, don't miss his classes! As a native Beijinger himself, he is also the perfect guide to make you understand better the local culture and history

Richard (our teacher) was amazing at teaching us the art of calligraphy. He’s very patient, full of joy and has made us laugh a lot! He makes sure, this experience is a memorable one. Highly recommend the private lesson as you can take your time and learn at your own pace!
